The star of the Premier League, Lucas Paqueta, considers the continuation of the FA 'after the collapse of the case fixing. Lucas Paquetá de West Ham United warm up before their Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta plans to take legal proceedings against the Football Association (FA) after having been uncompromisingly attached. His legal team would examine all possible options after an independent committee has given a severe assessment of the FA case.

The 28 -year -old Brazilian had been accused of four counts of having deliberately picked up yellow cards to influence the betting markets. The FA allegedly alleged that Package “intentionally sought to receive a card from the referee with the inappropriate goal of assigning the betting market so that one or more people take advantage of the bets” in the matches against Leicester City, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Bournemouth between November 2022 and Augg 2023. Manchester City had shown the interest of the signature of Packeta for 80 load load.

He denied any reprehensible act and was entirely authorized in July 2025. Written reasons published Wednesday, September 3 reveal how the FA gathered its case and explain why the Commission decided to reject it.

“Lack of an independent expert assessment”

At the heart of the case of FA, the activity of bets was reported by the international Betting Integrity Association. However, the Commission criticized the FA for having supported its own investigator too much instead of calling on an independent Paris expert.

“From the point of view of the Commission, the evidence presented by the FA on Paris data had an obvious defect, namely the absence of an expert assessment independent of this data. That the FA has chosen to advance the most important element of its case without any expert assessment independent of it, according to the commission, surprising. ” – FA vs Lucas Paqueta

“On what FA has accepted was the most important element of his case, he simply did not call evidence of independent experts,” said the report.

“Consequently, although it was not Mr. Astley’s fault, because he did what he had been directed to do, in circumstances where he was clearly and openly accepted by the FA that Mr. Astley was not an independent expert, from the point of view of the Commission, the proof presented by the FA on paving data.”

The panel added that there were other explanations for the activity of Paris which were just as credible: “The models of Paris may have emerged from a fairly random passage of the” hot advice “perceived or perceived` interior information “in Brazil as much as they could emerge from a fixed spot.”

The Commission also criticized the use by the FA of performance evidence, which, according to him, suffered from “confirmation bias”. He noted that the incidents on the ground were “interpreted in a way that assumed a guilty explanation when in reality they were at least also consistent with normal football actions”.

The case of the FA has also weakened when the analysis of telephone data, once a key element of their argument, was rejected after their own experts agreed with the opposite point of view advanced by the independent Paqueta analyst. “FA accepts that these evidence … no longer have the value or weight of the evidence that the FA considered to be the origin,” registered the Commission.

In the end, the panel concluded that the FA had not respected the standard of evidence necessary to support the charges: “The burden remains on the FA throughout the proof of the balance of probabilities … We conclude unanimously that the FA cannot reject the burden on it.”

Paqueta might think of bringing legal action against the FA

For package, the decision is a huge relief after spending more than a year under suspicion. His lawyers now decide their next move, sources telling BBC Sport that they examine all the options, including possible legal action against the FA for damage caused by accusations.

Representing the player, Nick de Marco KC, wrote on X: “Running on more than 300 pages, the decision is considered the longest judgment linked to sport never published in the world – the reflection of the gravity of the case, of the quantity of evidence deployed in what was the greatest case of the history of the FA, and one of the most important in my career as Locy Sports.”
