Rare struck by Yemen Houthi rebels strikes the southern airport of Israel
A drone pulled by Houthi activists in Yemen violated the multilacked air defense of Israel on Sunday and struck the southern airport of the country, said the Israeli army, briefly closing the commercial airspace and diverting flights over southern Israel.
Israel said the Yemen Houthi rebels attacked several drones, most of which were intercepted outside of Israel.
At least one of the drones has slipped by the Israel’s defense system and crashed into the Ramon International Airport Passenger Terminal near the Eilat resort, said the authority of Israeli airports, exploding glass windows and sending plumes of smoke.
The Houthis claimed the responsibility of the strike.
Israel’s emergency rescue service Magen David Adom said he had treated a 63 -year -old man for wounds with light shells. Damage to the airport seemed limited, and in a few hours it reopened while normal flights have resumed.
The attack comes a few days after the Israeli strikes on the rebel capital of Sanaa Yemen of Yemen killed Houthi Prime Minister and other officials of his cabinet during a major climbing of the almost two years conflict between Israel and the militant group supported by Iran in Yemen.
By saying that they acted in solidarity with the Palestinians, the Houthis began to pull missiles and drones in Israel after the attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, in southern Israel, he ignited the devastating campaign of the Israeli army in Gaza.
The Houthi drone hits Israeli airport
After the murder targeted by Israel of Prime Minister Houthi Ahmed Al-Rahawi on August 28, the activists promised to degenerate their attacks by targeting Israel and merchant ships navigating on the vital trade route through the Red Sea off Yemen.
The Houthis praised Sunday’s attack on Ramon airport – about 19 kilometers from Eilat on the tip of southern Israel – as “a single qualitative military operation”.
“Enemy airports are not safe and foreigners must leave them for their own security,” wrote Nasruddin Amer, deputy chief of the Houthi media office, on social networks. “Other sensitive targets are under fire.”

Shortly before Sunday’s strike, the Israeli army said it had intercepted three Houthi attack drones near the Israel border with Egypt, but had not detected a fourth drone that hit the airport without triggering air raid sirens. The soldiers said he was examining what had happened.
The Houthis have intensified their air attacks against Israel in recent months, in particular by deploying warheads with cluster ammunition which disperse smaller ammunition in a large area and challenge the Israel air defense system which otherwise intercepts most drones and missiles.
Houthi attacks against Israel, although frequent since the War of Israel-Hamas broke out in October 2023, rarely causing major damage or managed to achieve important objectives such as airports. But in May, a Houthi missile struck near Israel Ben Gurion airport, which prompted many international airlines to cancel flights to Tel Aviv for months.
Israel advances with Gaza City Operation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday promised to advance Israel’s operations in Gaza City, while negotiations between Israel and Hamas continued to weaken.
“Our efforts in Gaza on the last bastions, in fact the last important bastion, Gaza City, is one of our efforts to finish the crushing of the Iranian axis,” Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly assembly of the cabinet in Jerusalem.
Netanyahu said that more than 100,000 Palestinians had left Gaza City before the operation, although international organizations have at this figure, while the Palestinians wondered where Gaza could be sure for them.
Last week, a few thousand people left every day, with only 41,000 people who have evacuated since mid-August, out of approximately one million people estimated around Gaza City, according to the United Nations.
The Israeli army renews calls on Hamas to go as it launched air strikes on buildings where it indicates that members of the militant group are hiding. The strikes occur while the FDIs ordered more than a million Palestinians to leave the area before a major offensive.
The strikes kill 13 Palestinians in Gaza
In Gaza, at least 13 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on Sunday morning, including six children and three women, according to local hospitals. Shifa Hospital, north of Gaza, said eight people had been killed in an Israeli strike in a school where displaced people were sheltered.
The Israeli army said it was targeting militants around school and warned civilians to evacuate before the strike. The army accuses Hamas of having hidden weapons and activists inside civil zones.
Five other people were killed in strikes on tents and apartments in the center of Gaza and Gaza City, according to local hospitals. The Israeli army did not make immediate comments on other strikes.
The Gaza Ministry of Health said that a total of 64,368 people had been killed and 162,776 wounded since the war. The ministry does not make the difference between civilians and combatants, but says that more than half of the victims were women and children.
Negotiations are at a standstill between Hamas and Israel
Meanwhile, attempts to revive negotiations between Israel and Hamas hesitate.
Basem Naim, a member of the Hamas political bureau, said the militant group will not lay down their arms before the creation of an independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as a capital.
But he said Hamas was ready for a long -term truce and would release the hostages that will always be held in Gaza in exchange for a certain number of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel and the complete withdrawal of Israeli Gaza troops.

Naim said Hamas is still waiting for Israel to respond to a 60-day cease-fire proposal designed by Egyptian and Qatari mediators last month.
Netanyahu’s office refused to comment on the negotiations.
There are 48 hostages still detained in Gaza, including twenty, including Israel, is still alive. According to Israeli accounts, activists have kidnapped 251 people and killed around 1,200 in southern Israel in the attack that triggered war almost two years ago.
