“ A Solid Start ” – The undefeated Scotland after two World Cup qualifications

Scotland boss Steve Clarke praised his team’s “Solid Start” after a 2-0 victory against Bélarus invalid them in the World Cup qualifications.
An instinctive finish of Che Adams and its own second half goal were sufficient for the Scottish to win a match they dominated.
Scotland is not behind Denmark only by one goal after two games with two upcoming home games – but Clarke remains cautious while he has been pursuing a first World Cup final since 1998.
He said, “It was a difficult night. We continued to push, doing what we wanted to do. The message was just to stay patient and we managed to do so.
“It’s a good start, a solid start. Four points will never qualify you for anything. It’s nice to go home with a smile on your face, but I’m already thinking next month.
“Billy (Gilmour) and Ben (Gannon-Doak) are two players who excite the public. My job is to choose a team to win the game. The two have done very well.
“The clean leaves are what we have to build our campaign on.”
Scottish captain Andy Robertson considered that the opener of Adams – his 10th for his country – was the key to victory.
He said: “The work done. This is the best way to describe it.
“We knew they would try to be a little safer and defensive. We just had to be patient and get the goal at the ideal time just before half-time.
“We could have had more, but a job well done.”
