Earlier this week, DC Comics suddenly canceled its new Cap The comic strip of Trans Gretchen Felker-Martin and the artist Jeff are rays. The decision was made after Felker -Martin published comments and jokes on social networks on the assassination of the eminent right -wing activist Charlie Kirk, which occurred on the same day – on September 10 – as the launch of comics. DC Comics said in a statement that publications on social networks “which can be considered as promoting hostility or violence are incompatible with (our) driving standards”.

Now, in a new interview with the comic book Journal, Felker-Martin has spoken of his publications and the DC decision. She argued that DC had had no problem with his frank and sometimes incendiary presence on social networks when he approached it to make a comic strip in 2024.

She recalled how she said to the publisher at the time that “would get between five and a hundred of the wildest people you have ever met in your life, shouting for my head and yours”. She continued by saying that at the start, DC had given her “no terms or limitations” on her social networks; A DC spokesperson reiterated the previous position of the company to the fact of not respecting publications which “promoted hostility or violence”.

In the preceding weeks HOOD RED Launch, from publications on social networks produced by Felker-Martin on loaded political subjects, including the War of Israel-Gaza, resurfaced. Felker-Martin told the newspaper comics that it was at this stage that she had received a decline on her social media activities; A DC spokesperson confirmed to him in the comic book Journal, saying that the company asked Felker-Martin to be more aware of his online statements. Felker-Martin said she generally respects this request until the day of Kirk murder.

The author said that she was standing under her comments on Kirk while expressing her sympathy for her Cap The co-creators, including the spokespersons, the Taurin Clarke cover artist and the editors Arianna Turturro and Rob Levin. “I can only really put it back for a moment of bad control of the impulses,” she told the newspaper comics. “If I had thought for another second, of course, I would have known (that it would be a problem for DC), and of course, as soon as I said, I knew it.”

Felker-Martin also pointed out that she did not want to work with DC Comics in the future: “I have no desire to be part of an organization that wants to claim that people like Charlie Kirk are decent human beings who deserve respect.”

Io9 has also contacted Felker-Martin and will update this message if and when we hear.
