All-action style
Hatton’s all-action style has added to its popularity. He built passionate follow-up in the United Kingdom before really promising himself on the world scene with his epic victory against Tszyu for the IBF worldwide world title in 2005.
Pound for Pound Great Tszyu had only lost twice before, but was forced to retire on his stool in front of 22,000 fans in Manchester.
Hatton later described him as his greatest victory, but it was only the beginning of a period when he fought at the top of sport, with thousands of fans in America for huge fights.

In an article on X, his former manager, Frank Warren, described it as a “superbly talented fighter who inspired a generation of young boxers and fans in a way that very little had done before”, adding that he will “rightly descend as one of the great moderns of this sport”.
Losses in Mayweather, Pacquiao
Hatton lost for the first time in his career against Mayweather at MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 2007.
After a return to closed at the Manchester City stadium a year later, he went up the summit of the sport to face Manny Pacquiao in 2009, losing inside two towers.
Hatton retired after this defeat, but made a remarkable return four years later after having assured himself of weight and lasting problems with the depression and consumption of alcohol, as well as allegations of drug use.
While he lost against Vyacheslav Senchenko, the fact that he managed to return to the ring was considered a personal triumph.
Outside the ring, Hatton was a fan of Manchester City for life.
The club said there would be a minute of appreciation for Hatton at the Sunday derby against Manchester United.
“Ricky was one of City’s most beloved supporters, who will always remember a sparkling boxing career who saw him win world titles in Welter weights and light weights,” City said in a statement. “Everyone at the club would like to send our sincere condolences to their family and friends in this difficult period.”
The announcement of Hatton’s return to the ring later this year occurred after having been successful as a trainer, causing Zhanat Zhakiyanov to a victory for world rooster weights in 2017.
