In April, the movement on a trial in 2024 involving AI, Tesla, Warner Bros. and the production company behind Blade Runner 2049 drew the attention of science fiction fans. Today, there is an update that biaise in favor of Warner Bros.

ALCON Entertainment, which produced the film by Denis Villeneuve 2017 and has the main video Blade Runner 2099 A series on the way, alleged that the promotional material used during a Tesla event in October 2024 was very closely like this film.

These concerns were further reinforced by the fact that Alcon had asked Warner Bros., who distributes his films and associates with Tesla for a “Robotaxi” or “Cybercab” unveiling, so as not to allow the use of the use of Blade Runner 2049 Imaging as part of the event.

The trial that followed alleys that Tesla has bypassed this request by nourishing Blade Runner 2049 Simant in an AI image generator, and this is what was finally used to redouble the Tesla presentation.

The trial addresses several complicated questions, in particular, as the Hollywood journalist points out, “if the creation of a visual by a generator of IA images in copying part of a work protected by copyright without license constitutes a violation of copyright.” This is one of the questions not yet undecided in the current procedure.

As ThR reports, now rejected is “allegations aimed at discovering Warner Bros. Responsible for the use of photos by Tesla “as well as” other alleging statement than Warner Bros. Discovery had a duty to prevent Tesla from violating the intellectual property of Alcon ”.

However, “Warner Bros. Discovery still faces a contributory counterfeit request, which accuses the studio of facilitating alleged misconduct. ”

You can know more about the trial in THR; The complexities of this specific case, however, arrive at a time when Hollywood faces problems focused on the encroachment of intellectual property by AI on an unprecedented scale.

Earlier this month, we learned that Warner Bros. had joined Disney and Universal to file a complaint against Midjourney; As reported Variety, allegations accuse “the platform generating IA images of the blatant copyright violations” involving WB characters protected by copyright.

We do not yet know how Alcon, who (by THR) has an essay more “repair complaints for the violation of direct copyright and prosecutor”. But even if Warner Bros. ends up overcoming the remaining claims in this case, it seems that the studio has now taken a new interest in protecting its library against copyright violation with a generative AI elsewhere.
