A suspect was in detention after a driver struck a car in a personal FBI Building security door in Pittsburgh early on Wednesday, then removed an American flag from the rear seat and threw it over the door before leaving, the authorities said.

“It was a targeted attack on this building,” Pittsburgh Christopher Giordano told Pittsburgh, an assistant special agent in charge of the FBI in Pittsburgh. No staff were injured.

The suspect, identified as Donald Henson by Penn Hills nearby, was arrested after 10 a.m., more than seven hours after the incident, officials said. No details on the reason or on how he was able to flee was immediately available, but the FBI said he did not treat him as a case of terrorism, said spokesman Bradford Arick.

No accusation had been published in a list of federal files for Henson by early Wednesday afternoon, and federal prosecutors did not immediately send messages asking for comments. Giordano said the FBI would vigorously pursue the case.

The FBI knew Henson, whom Giordano described as a former member of the army. A message left to a phone number linked to him was not immediately returned.

“He came here to the FBI office on the field a few weeks ago to file a complaint that did not make much sense,” said Giordano.

He said the car seemed to have a kind of message on a side window, but did not develop. The car, a white sedan, also seemed to have an American Air Force sticker.

The investigators, including a team of bombs, found no explosives on the scene.

The security door has the period of theater by a federal entrepreneur, said Arick.
