Norwegian Lottery Authority brought a fine of 10 million Nok ($ 1 million) on Norsk’s switch for a massive defect in its game system.

The fault results from an algorithm which was incorrectly entered during the draw for the Norwegian lottery, which led thousands of players to receive erroneous gains and push notifications.

Norsk’s tilting receives a heavy fine

As we pointed out at the time of the incident, Norsk Tipping contacted 47,000 Norwegian residents eligible to bet on the competition, and 30,000 of these users were wrongly informed that they were the lucky prize winners.

Anya Thérèse Markhus, said the violation, saying: “Norsk’s tilting violated the act of play. People should be able to trust their games. The fact that several thousand players receive an excessive gains notice are clearly harmful to trust. ”

The error formula or the algorithm incorrectly converted the gains from the price of Eurocents to Norwegian Kroner, which has been multiplied by a hundred instead of being divided by a hundred.

Tonje Sagstuen, CEO of Norsk Tipping, resigned in June 2025 after being revealed that the orders in place of the company were lax and led to the national scandal.

Trust Norsk’s falls in a hollow of all time

Atle Hamar, director of the Lottery and Foundations Authority, was striking in his recent summary of the lottery error and echoed the message of Makhus, saying: “Players should be able to trust Norsk Tipping, and it is a serious violation of confidence.”

Since the time of error, Norsk Tipping has tried to deal with many errors and to contact the bettors affected by the question, but confidence is at the heart of the question for the Lottery and Paris society.

Carl Fredrik Stenstrom, who is the secretary general of the Norwegian Industry Association for online game (NBO), wrote on X: “Norsk’s tilting has a monopoly on the game for almost 80 years. Now confidence is a historic hollow, and they have made too many mistakes to have the market alone. ”

Norsk’s switch was given three weeks to respond to the fine of a million dollars (which is equal to 0.1% of the company’s turnover in 2024) or the Norwegian play authority will take other measures, the statement said.

This is not the only time when Norsk Tipping’s failures were highlighted, as we reported earlier this month. The Norwegian Lottery Authority inflicted a fine of 46 million kroner ($ 4.5 million) for the discovery that there were defects in the additional Eurojackpot drawing and lotto prints.
