“ Ultimate in Cancel Culture ”: fans outside Jimmy Kimmel Studio react to shows

The ABC withdrawn the late evening Jimmy Kimmel off the comments he made on the set of right -wing influencer Charlie Kirk.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-emptied indefinitely,” said a spokesperson for the network belonging to Disney in a press release. Kimmel did not comment on the BBC when he emerged shortly after the television studio in Los Angeles.

Earlier this week, Kimmel said on his show that the “Gang Maga” was trying to score political points in the Kirk murder.

A 22 -year -old suspect appeared on Tuesday in court accused of aggravated murder during the shooting last week of the 31 -year -old conservative activist.

Kimmel said in his monologue on Monday evening: “Gang Maga trying desperately to characterize this child who murdered Charlie Kirk as something other than one of them and do everything they can to score political points.”

The end of the evening host also criticized the flags piloted in half-mast in honor of Kirk, and made fun of the reaction of American president Donald Trump to the shooting.

“It is not as an adult cries the murder of someone he calls a friend. This is a four -year -old child crying a golden fish,” said Kimmel, who often had fun in Trump.

The day Kirk was killed, Kimmel went to Instagram to condemn the attack and send “love” to the family of the conservative activist.

The authorities did not specify a reason in the deadly Kirk shooting on September 10.

According to the charge documents, the suspect’s mother “explained that in the past year, he had become political and had started to look more to the left – becoming more pro -gay and oriented towards rights”.

The suspect, Tyler Robinson, was not registered with any political party and voted in the 2022 or 2024 elections, according to the authorities.

Shortly after ABC announced that Kimmel had been suspended, Trump said it was “excellent news for America”.

“The notes challenged Jimmy Kimmel’s show are canceled. Congratulations to ABC for having finally had the courage to do what should be done,” wrote the president in an article on social networks.

Trump also criticized two other end -of -evening hosts, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers, whom he described as “two total losers, on the false NBC news. Their notes are also horrible”.

The president has already exchanged beards with Kimmel. Last year, the ABC star – who welcomed four Oscar award ceremonies – read Trump’s scathing journal on his performance on stage in the middle of the Oscar presentation.

Jimmy Kimmel did not comment

Kimmel’s monologue provoked criticism on Monday, notably the president of the Federal Commission Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr.

The head of the American communications regulator said on Wednesday that the host ABC had shown “the most sick driving” and he urged Disney to act.

“(The broadcasters) have a license granted by us to the FCC, and this accompanies him with obligation in the public interest,” said the name of Trump to Benny Show, a conservative podcast.

He noted that Kimmel apology would be a “very reasonable and minimal step”.

But Anna Gomez, the only Democratic member of the FCC, criticized Carr’s remarks.

She posted on X that “an inexcusable act of political violence by a disturbed individual should never be exploited as justification of censorship or wider control”.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA), the Hollywood Labor Union, condemned the decision to withdraw Kimmel in violation of the rights to constitutional freedom of expression.

“Shame on those of government who forget this founding truth,” he said in a statement.

Sag-Aftra, another union, said that this decision was “the type of suppression and reprisals that endangers everyone’s freedoms”.

The ABC announcement just after one of the largest owners of television stations in the United States, Nexstar Media, said that he would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live! “In the foreseeable future, starting with this evening show”.

Nexstar said that the comedian’s comments on Kirk were “offensive and insensitive to a critical moment in our national political discourse”.

“(We) do not think they reflect the spectrum of opinions, opinions or values of local communities in which we are,” said Andrew Alford, president of the NEXSTAR radio division.

The FCC commissioner thanked Nexstar “for having done the right thing” and said that he hoped that other broadcasters would follow his example. Nexstar currently requests FCC approval for its expected melting of $ 6.2 billion with Tegna.

Sinclair, the largest ABC affiliation group in the United States, has followed suit. He said he would broadcast a special memory program dedicated to Kirk this Friday during the original time slot of Kimmel’s show.

A person familiar with Kimmel’s situation told CNBC that the host had not been dismissed, adding that the network bosses intended to speak to the actor of what he should say when he returns to the antenna.

Kimmel is the last end of evening host to see his program encounter problems while more and more viewers are turning to streaming on traditional network visualization.

In July, Rival Network CBS announced that it would end the late show with Stephen Colbert next year after 11 seasons.

Network managers said this decision was “not in any way linked to performance, content or other issues of the show on Paramount”.

However, Colbert entered the network and his parent company about the decision.

He accused CBS of having disclosed financial figures to the press and alluded to a regulation of $ 16 million (13.5 million pounds Sterling) with Trump after continuing the network during an interview that his 60-minute program did last year with former vice-president Kamala Harris.

This payment occurred several months after the ABC belonging to Disney agreed to pay $ 15 million (12 million pounds Sterling) in Trump to settle a defamation trial after his star anchor George Stephanopoulos said on several occasions during an interview that the president had been tried “responsible for rape”.

A jury in a civil affair had determined that Trump was responsible for “sexual abuse”, which has a specific definition under the law of New York.

After being withdrawn from the air on Wednesday, Kimmel left the studio on Hollywood Boulevard wearing a flannel shirt and a cap and was mounted in a car without comment.

Fans of the show, who had queue to join the audience live, expressed their disappointment with regard to the cancellation.

Janna Blackwell, who was on vacation from Virginie, told the BBC: “You know, it becomes ridiculous and stupid.

“Freedom of expression. He shared his opinion and is canceled. For me, it’s weird.”

A small event also took place outside the studio with a sign saying that “Trump must go now”.
