Estonia condemns the violation of airspace “cheeky” by Russian war planes

Russian war planes have violated Estonian airspace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in Tallinn, condemning the foray as “cheeky”.

He said three Russian mig-31 hunting planes “entered Estonian airspace without authorization and stayed there for a total of 12 minutes” on the Gulf of Finland on Friday.

The ministry says that he summoned Russian affairs “to file a demonstration”. The first EU Kaja Kallas diplomat described the foray as “an extremely dangerous provocation”.

The Estonian media report that Russian planes have if the airspace of a member of NATO.

The Russian army did not publicly comment on the issue.

In a statement, the Minister of Affairs of Estonian Affairs Margus Tsahkna said that Friday’s foray was “unprecedented”.

He continued: “The increasingly extended tests by Russia of borders and increasing aggressiveness must be welcomed by a rapid increase in political and economic pressures”.

The minister added that Russia had already violated Estonian airspace four times in 2025.
