The Duchess of York calls Epstein a “supreme friend” in email resurfaces

Two newspapers published an email which would have been sent by the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, to the pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, calling him “supreme friend” – despite his conviction for sexual offenses.
The sun and Sunday email reported that the email, from 2011, was sent weeks after the duchess had publicly published against the disgrace financier.
A Duchess spokesman – the former wife of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York – said that the email was to counter a threat that Epstein had made to pursue her for defamation.
In an interview in 2011, the Duchess said that her involvement with Epstein had been a “gigantic error of judgment”.
At the time, the Duchess also promised that she would have nothing to do with Epstein, saying: “I hate pedophilia and any sexual abuse of children.”
She added: “I cannot say more strongly that I know that a terrible and terrible error of judgment was made, I have something to do with Jeffrey Epstein. What he did was bad and for which he was rightly imprisoned.”
Epstein had been imprisoned three years earlier for having requested prostitution of a minor.
But the sun and the mail said on Sunday shortly after giving the interview in 2011, the Duchess sent an e-mail to Epstein to say that she had not used the word “pedophilia” in reference to him.
“As you know, I haven’t said the” p word “absolutely, but he understood that I was reported that I did it,” she wrote.
“I know you feel locked up by me. You have always been a constant, generous and supreme friend for me and my family.”
A Duchess spokesman said the email was sent after Epstein threatened to continue defamation – in order to convince him not to do so.
“The Duchess talked about her regret about her association with Epstein many years ago, and as they have always been, her first thoughts are with his victims,” they said.
“Like many people, she was taken over by her lies. As soon as she was aware of the extent of the allegations against him, she not only cut contact but condemned her publicly, insofar as he then threatened to pursue her for defamation for having associated her with pedophilia.”
The spokesperson added that the Duchess supported his public sentence of Epstein.
“She does not reside what she said then. This email was sent in the context of advice that the duchess was given to try to appease Epstein and her threats.”
Epstein, a well -connected and sexual offender financier condemned, was found dead by the suicide in 2019 when he was waiting for a sexual traffic trial in New York.
