James Gunn wants “the man of tomorrow” shows the layers of Lex Luthor

While the Superman following Man of tomorrow Not released before 2027, that did not prevent the director / writer James Gunn from vaguely teasing certain plans, in particular with regard to the Lithor of Nicholas Hoult.
In a recent interview with The Ringer-Verse, Gunn was asked about his approach to Lex for Tomorrow and the DC universe overall. Gunn aims to “enter the heart of Lex” and to explore his human side more. By his own admission, Lex was a bastard in this first film (even before killing Superman, the support of Malik), but always thinks that there is something “incredibly heroic” in the batty bad guy.
“(Lex) is a guy who (sees Superman) and says:” You can hold a building or shoot down planes with your eyes. Go get fucked up, I’m going to kick your ass because I’m better than you. I can’t help but admire the tenacity of Lex and his ego, “said Gunn. Although nothing of the jealousy and the Lex inferiority complex about Superman goes through the roof, Gunn has recognized how much a feeling that can be relatable may be and something he hopes to explore further in Tomorrow.
“This (jealousy) makes Lex full, much more than most of these bad guys that we saw in these films,” continued Gunn. “He has his reasons for everything, and he is the oppressed. He has corporate power to manipulate things, but he cannot fly to space or lift a building. (…) It’s just a guy, and I love it.”
Gunn previously teased Man of tomorrow As a team film with Lex and Superman by David Corenswet against a threat, only both can manage. Whatever this threat, it will see Lex put on his kitchen to help Superman get out, to double him. We will see how this fractured alliance takes place when the film will be released on July 9, 2027.
