Latvia is overhauled by its game system before strict budgetary reform in the country before 2026.

The Minister of Finance, Arvils Ašeradens, and the director of the Lottery and Game Supervision Inspectorate (IAUI), a Birne sign, worked in tandem to produce legislation updated before a parliamentary examination in April 2026.

The Minister Ašerradens confirmed that the state returned service (SRS) will incorporate the IAUI into a decision which provides the regulation of play and operator licenses under state surveillance.

Ašerradens has been the country’s finance minister since December 2022 and previously held the post of Minister of the Economy from 2016 to 2019.

He said that as part of a briefing, “the integration of game surveillance (currently IAUI) in the state Revenue Service will allow us to establish unified management more quickly, to better use our resources and provide better quality services to the public.”

This decision aims to shorten the attachment between the State and the approved third parties to have an impact on the main priorities of the current government while the nation is preparing for record military expenses in 2027 and 2028.

The project of budgetary modifications, which must take effect in 2026, must be submitted by the cabinet of ministers at the latest on October 14. The National Parliament (SAEIMA) will give its approval and exam the next day.

These changes, coming into force on January 1, include radical reforms that the current Prime Minister, Evika Siliņa, identified as its main priorities. They include an increase in taxation and rights on alcohol and tobacco games.

Changes that have an impact on game regulations in the country mainly involve taxation. Game machines should see a regular increase, from € 6,204 planned to € 7,440 ($ 7,319 to $ 8,770).

The table game will see an increase in taxation of € 33,696 ($ 39,720) to € 40,440 ($ 47,665), and there will be a 3% increase in telephone bet, an increase of 2% on the bingo and an increase of 3% on digital games.

Silina said “security, support for families, economic growth and the reduction of bureaucracy, bringing public administration closer to people,” were the main priorities of her office.
