Former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair was involved in discussions on the management of a transitional authority in Gaza if there is a cease-fire, includes the BBC.

Sir Tony, who took the United Kingdom to the war in Iraq in 2003, was in high-level planning talks with all the parties to end the war and the post-conflict future for Palestinian territory, is heard.

At the heart of the last proposal – discussed by US President Donald Trump and the Arab leaders at the UN this week – is the idea that Gaza was led by a transitional body with United Nations support and Gulf support, before being given to the Palestinian control.

A proposal that would have obtained support from Washington is that Sir Tony directs this authority, although his office only said that he would not support anything that moved the people of Gaza.

Sir Tony joined a White House meeting with Trump in August to discuss the post-war Gaza plans, which the American sending of the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, described as “very complete”-although little have been disclosed about the meeting.

The former Prime Minister was sent to the Middle East for the Quartet of International Powers (the United States, the EU, Russia and the UN) for a few years after leaving his functions in 2007. He focused on the economic development of Palestine and the creation of the conditions for a state solution.

As PM, he made the decision to commit British forces in the 2003 Iraq war in Iraq which was strongly criticized in the official survey on the conflict, which revealed that he had acted on erroneous intelligence without certainty as to the production of weapons of mass destruction.

The discussion reports on his involvement in a transitional authority for Gaza came after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Thursday that he was ready to work with Trump and other world leaders to implement a two -state peace plan.

Abbas underlined his rejection of a future role of governance for Hamas in Gaza and demanded that he disarm.

Earlier this week, the United Kingdom officially recognized Palestine’s state alongside Canada and Australia. Other countries have followed this example, notably France and Denmark, while Israel and the United States have criticized this decision as a reward for Hamas.

Sir Keir stressed that diplomatic decision means that Hamas can “no future, no role in government, no role in security” and was “the exact opposite of their hateful vision”.

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the attack by Hamas against southern Israel on October 7, 2023, during which around 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

At least 65,419 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Hamas in the territory. A United Nations commission of inquiry said that Israel had committed a genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, which Israel denies.
