You will never guess what food has just reminded again for being radioactive

US food security officials have issued multiple warnings in the past five weeks on shrimp on the shelves of supermarkets that could be radioactive. But this week has seen even more reminders than usual, with four new warnings for various shrimp brands since Sunday.
The latest reminders concern the shrimp of Lawrence Wholesale, Southwind Foods and Aquastar, distributed across the country under enough forms to make Bubba from Forrest Gump Proud: frozen raw shrimps, shrimp skewers, cooked shrimps and cocktail shrimps.
Shrimp reminders began last month after the frozen raw shrimps of great value sold in Walmart were reported to be potentially contaminated by cesium-137. The CS-137 found in this shrimp measured 68 Bq / kg, below the standard for federal intervention, which is located at 1200 Bq / kg. But civil servants were still concerned because prolonged exposure to small amounts of radiation can cause health problems.
The cause of potential contamination in all these shrimps is not yet clear, although the FDA warns that the shrimps were potentially packed and prepared in “unsanitary conditions”. No product that has reached the shelves of supermarkets has yet been tested positive for CS-137, according to the FDA. You will notice that all FDA warnings say “may have become contaminated”.
But that did not prevent Senator John Kennedy, a republican of Louisiana, who recently took the prosecution of the Senate to warn that eating all these shrimps will transform you into an “alien of the film Stranger. ” Seriously.

Again, the FDA does not claim that one of these shrimps is definitely radioactive. And the American Nuclear Society notes that the reading of 68 Bq / kg found last month is similar to the radiation levels found in bananas. It is simply not the kind of thing you want a repeated exposure, especially since the radiation of bananas (potassium-40) is natural, and the cesium-137 only exists because we decided to introduce humanity to the nuclear era in 1945.
But it is probably better to be safe than sorry.
