Elon Musk has long complained about Wikipedia, the encyclopedia from the crowd which is considered a jewel of the crown of the Internet. And now it seems that the billionaire will finally launch a competitor.

“We are building Grokipedia @xai,” Musk tweeted on Tuesday. “Will be a massive improvement compared to Wikipedia. Frankly, this is a necessary step towards the XAI lens to understand the universe.”

Tesla’s CEO previously insisted that Wikipedia is too “awake” and wants to offer an alternative encyclopedia with more right -wing “facts” on the world. Musk has described Wikipedia as “wokpedia” at least half a dozen times in recent years.

Musk, who spent more than $ 270 million to elect President Donald Trump, launched his artificial intelligence company XAI in 2023 and praises his cat from Cat AI as a higher product. But Grok often presents facts on the world with which Musk does not agree. And his attempts to tinker with Grok to become more right have had a mixed success.

Two high -level incidents with Grok were an embarrassment for musk, including the time that Grok answered questions with theories of the conspiracy not linked to the white farmers murdered in South Africa. A few months later, Grok went to the Nazi, praising Hitler and approving the idea of bringing the Jews together in concentration camps.

Musk never took a blame for having made Grok if Buggy, but the two incidents came after the CEO complained on X that his chatbot IA did not answer factual questions as he wanted. And it seems likely that Grokipedia will almost certainly respect similar limitations.

Musk and Xai have not published any information on the operation of Grokipedia, especially if it will be 100% AI content. It is also difficult to know if Grokipedia will have URL dedicated to various subjects that anyone can visit or if it will be a kind of modified version of Grok which spits answers to various questions.

“Join @XAI and help build Grokipedia, an open source knowledge repository that is much better than Wikipedia! It will be available for the public without any use limit,” tweeted Musk.

If the user interface is just a chatbot like Grok, it is not clear how it would be different from the Grok A A that exists now. XAI did not answer questions on Tuesday on the operation of Grokipedia, nor when launched.

Musk also quoted Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia on Tuesday, who shared nine changes that he wanted to see the dominant online encyclopedia adopt, in particular:

  1. Put an end to decision -making by “consensus”
  2. Activate competing articles
  3. Abolish Source Black Lissts
  4. Relive the policy of original neutrality
  5. Abrogate “ignore all rules”
  6. Reveal who are the managers of Wikipedia
  7. Leave public items
  8. Finish permanent blockage
  9. Adopt a legislative process

Musk called them “good suggestions”. Sanger left Wikipedia in 2002 and has had no formal involvement since. He has been critical of the project for decades and recently appeared in the program by Tucker Carlson to complain about the way he is biased against the Conservatives.

The magic of Wikipedia is that anyone can contribute information, quote a source, and it is monitored by contributors and publishers who mainly try to keep things as objective and factual as possible while citing reliable sources. Generative AI tools like Grok create sentences based on their training data, and it is difficult to tinker with weights to prioritize a right view of the world without becoming a complete Nazi. We have seen that playing in real time twice now on a large scale, everything thanks to Musk.

There are a lot of big questions to which has not been answered what Grokipedia will look like. But it would not be the first time that the Conservatives have been trying to launch their own competitor Wikipedia. ConservaPedia was launched in 2006 and is widely considered as a joke by anyone who tries to browse its ridiculous items.

Even the right bias of Conservapedia does not seem to be very well treated Musk, as you can see from this extract from its page on the site:

Musk apparently does not hire the conservatives in key positions and is a cheerleader to give foreigners the best jobs in America. He wants an extended use of visas to import foreigners, and most of his Tesla cars are made in China. This is contrary to the first position in America of supporters of Maga. Personally, the fathers of musk of many children without being a daily father for them.

No wonder Musk tries to build his own Wikipedia. Even right -wing copies do not cut it much. At least Conservapedia made him the favor of not mentioning these two Nazi style salvation the day Trump was inaugurated.
