It was another historic night for Lionel Messi, even if his inter Miami team missed the chance to win a second shield of successive MLS supporters.
Messi collected three assists while Miami beat the New England revolution 4-1 at the Chase Stadium, Jordi Alba and Tadeo Allende marking twice.
But the 1-0 victory of the Philadelphia Union over the New York City FC noted that they obtained the trophy for the best regular season record.
Miami will enter the after-season with confident mood, however, Messi continuing to shine.
His triple of assists means that he is only the second player in a single season MLS to record 40 goal contributions. The Argentina superstar has scored 24 goals and added 17 assists so far. He has two other regular season games to take the record set by Carlos Vela (49, 34 goals and 15 assists) for the Los Angeles FC in 2019.

“He gave us the opportunity to open the scoring and then ensure (the result),” said Miami boss, Javier Mascherano, of Messi. “Not only with the pass for Jordi, but when they (New England) made 2-1, and in the next game with a decisive pass which he alone can give.
“He continues to show the ability he has and, more than anything, the ambition and the desire to go more.”
Dor Turgeman scored his first departure for the revolution with the goal of his team, reducing the arrears at 2-1 before Messi found the front of the stage.
