The billionaire Andrej Babiš became another populist leader in Central Europe to organize a political return by winning a big one in the legislative elections of the Czech Republic, according to almost complete results on Saturday.

This result could remove the country from supporting Ukraine and to Hungary and Slovakia, which have taken a pro-Russian path.

With the results of 99.5% of the polling stations counted by the statistics movement, the Babiš ‘Ano (yes) movement captured 34.7% of the votes, firmly defeating the conservative coalition of Prime Minister Petr Fiala who received 23.2%.

Babiš was jubilant after his best electoral result, the appellant “historic” for himself and his political group “tote” since he burst into national policy in 2013.

“We want the Czech Republic to become the best place for the life of the European Union and we will do everything to get there,” he told his supporters and the media.

With the victory, Babiš would join the ranks of the Prime Ministers Viktor Orbán of Hungary and Robert Fico in Slovakia, whose countries have refused to provide military aid to Ukraine, continue to import Russian oil and to oppose the sanctions of the European Union against Russia.

The Czech Republic has been a fervent supporter of Ukraine since the large -scale invasion of Russia in February 2022. The country has donated weapons, including heavy weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces and which is at the origin of an initiative which acquires the Ukraine artillery shells which does not need countries outside the EU.

“We don’t like this,” said Babiš about this internationally recognized initiative. “We have a different vision of this,” he said.

The opposition led by Babiš has blamed Fiala for all the problems of recent years, from the energy crisis to inflation in arrow, and has committed to revoke its reform of pensions and its aid for Ukraine.

Fiala congratulated him, saying that the result was clear and “it is necessary to accept it”.

His campaign focused on security in the middle of the Russian Invasion on a large scale of Ukraine.

A group of mayors known as Stan, also a member of the Fiala government, had 11.1% of the vote, with another ally of Fiala, the Pirates party, reaching 8.7%.

The main anti-migrant force, the Freedom and Direct Democracy party, obtained 7.9% while a right-wing group called motorists collected 6.8%.

Babiš said that his goal was to form a single party government and that he will have to request the tolerance of the two groups.

The two -day elections filled 200 seats in the lower room of the Czech Parliament. Babiš won 80 seats, the Freedom Party has 15 and the motorists 13. The coalition Ensemble won 52.

He united his forces with his friend Orbán last year to create a new alliance to the European Parliament, the “Patriots for Europe”, to represent the right groups, a significant change in the liberal renewal group to which Babiš previously belonged.

The patriots are united by an anti-migrant rhetoric, a critical position towards EU policies to fight against climate change and the protection of national sovereignty.

Motorists, who are supported by the former EU skeptical president Václav Klaus, share points of view while Freedom Party wants to direct the EU and NATO country and plans to expel almost all 380,000 Ukrainian refugees from the country.

“We are clearly pro-European and pro-nato,” said Babiš after the victory.

President Petr Pavel is expected to meet Babiš and other party leaders on Sunday. The highest head of the stronger political force has the president to form a new government.

If he wants to govern alone, his minority cabinet would need at least tacit support from the Freedom party and motorists to win a voting compulsory parliamentary confidence to reign.

The result was a fiasco for a coalition of four far-left marginal parts led by the Maverick Communists who are openly pro-Russian and have not won a seat.
