WLA shares the commitment to fight against the fixing of matches and the maintenance of sports integrity

The World Lottery Association (WLA) announced that it had increased activities to fight against the fixing of matches and other illicit activities that have an impact on industry.
“With other stakeholders, we direct this world fight,” explains WLA. In a more in-depth overview of the subject, which is done in the association’s magazine, the president of the WLA, Jean-Luc Moner-Banet, extends the problems with which the industry is currently faced.
“Our industry is faced with a number of important challenges. For example, we must always find a balance between not regulation and send bettors to the illegal markets, while retaining relevant and responsible regulated lottery offers.
“With regard to this, our members must continually educate sports betting to explain why they should choose legal rather than illegal operators.
“They must find effective ways to communicate this with their customers, who may not be aware of the impact that illegal operators can have on the integrity of sport and the loss of funds in good causes.”
When asked how the Committee supports members to respond to these concerns, Moner-Banet explains the recent actions that took place.
“During the last year, the Committee has developed useful documents for members, including the guide to best money laundering practices, with an overview of the Paris market attraction for launders, the impact of evolutionary technologies and useful measures to establish, in order to better protect itself from potential launders.”
The annual WLA sports betting seminar, co -organized with European lotteries, was focused on the theme “Sports at the future test – integrity and innovation in lottery offers”. The event attracted more than 100 participants from many regions to discuss the latest trends.
To really push its commitment to fight against these questions, WLA has a current project with the Council of Europe (COE) to develop directives which aim to define a set of criteria and thresholds which can be used to assess the service provision by the Paris industry.
“The objective is to ensure that operators prioritize individuals / teams, competitions and markets (types of bets) with high integrity standards and these individuals / teams and competitions where there is already a high level of customer interest in the outset of an event.
“We hope that this will also strengthen cooperation with the relevant authorities, sports guidelines and courts, in cases where concerns exist concerning prevention, detection, proceedings and awareness of fixing matches.”
