The Albanian judge shot the court by the man on trials

A judge in Albania was killed after a man opened fire during a trial at the Capital Tirana Court of Appeal.
Judge Astrit Kalaja died on the hospital, said officials, while two other people involved in the hearing for a dispute on property – a father and a son – were slaughtered but injuries that did not put life in danger.
Police said they had arrested a 30 -year -old male suspect whom they identified by the initials “E SH”, but the Albanian media appointed Elvis Shkëmbi.
The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, offered his condolences to the family of judge Kalaja, adding: “The criminal assault against the judge undoubtedly requires the most extreme legal response to the aggressor”.
He also called for more strict security in the courts of the country and the more severe sanctions for the illegal possession of weapons.
Sali Berisha, head of the opposition Democratic Party, said that the murder of Kalaja judge was the first time in 35 years that a judge was killed “while doing his duty”, adding: “Today, it is the day of a deep reflection of all Albanian society”.
The suspect in the murder of judge Kalaja had opened fire because he expected to lose the case, according to local media.
Mr. Shkëmbi’s uncle and the court security guard would also have been arrested during the shooting.
The attacks of firearms against the judges of the courtroom are rare but they occur. Ten years ago, a judge of the Milan courthouse was killed by a man in judgment in a bankruptcy case.
The shooter also killed a lawyer and his co-define before escaping, but was then arrested.
Judge Kalaja has been a lawyer for over 30 years. He first worked before a district court before being appointed to the Tirana Court of Appeal in 2019.
