Man killed in an alleged bear attack

A bear would have attacked and killed a 60 -year -old Missouri man who camped in the Ozark National Forest in Arkansas in a rare fatal attack, according to local officials.
The children of the man called the police in Newtown County after hearing their father during his trip to Sam throne campsite for a few days, Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said in a statement.
The police found the body of the man several meters beyond the campsite, with injuries like those of a “large carnivorous attack”, said the sheriff’s office.
The bear suspected of having attacked the man was captured and killed.
Officials have not yet published the name of the 60 -year -old victim.
The Sheriff Wheeler said on Sunday that a bear who would be responsible for the attack had been killed after being photographed in the campsite earlier during the day.
Local hunters were called and brought dogs, who started dragging the bear, and chased it out shortly after.
The remains of the bear will be necroped – an autopsy carried out on an animal – among other tests, in particular by trying to obtain DNA samples which correspond to the victim.
“To be 100%certain, we will have to wait for any DNA matches, but all the indications are that it is the bear responsible for the deadly attack,” said Sheriff Wheeler.
“It is a relief for me and the community, and I thank God for this result. It was a dangerous bear.”
The campsite remains temporarily closed.
The man had sent his family photos of a bear to his camp before the attack, said officials, helping them to identify the animal – a young man who corresponded to the size of the bear photographed and had the same facial colors.
Arkansas is home to more than 5,000 black bears, the only species of bears in the state.
Bear attacks, especially mortals, are not common in North America.
From 1900 to 2009, only 63 people died of a black bear attack in North America, according to a study by the Journal of Wildlife Management.
