Birmingham and Ipswich played an exciting 1-1 draw in St Andrews to launch the 2025-26 championship campaign.

The first half was Cagey, with chances that are difficult to find in a closely disputed match.

Defai Gray approached for Birmingham just before half-time, but his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper of Ipswich, Alex Palmer.

After the break, Birmingham became the match and the breakthrough arrived in the 55th minute when Jay Stansfield expertly finished a strike from the left foot after Kyogo Furuhashi hit the post.

After the objective, visitors increased their pressure, creating some promising chances but could not find the net until a short time.

The turning point arrived in 90 + 3 minutes when Lyndon Dykes managed the ball inside the Birmingham penalty area, causing a penalty to Ipswich.

George Hirst converted the kick, sending the goalkeeper in the wrong direction to level the scoring at 1-1.

In the last frantic minutes, the two parties exchanged free kicks and corners, but none were able to find a winner.

The match ended with the two managers capable of taking positive points – Birmingham for their attacker promise when they return to the championship, and Ipswich for their resilience in what should be a difficult campaign in the second division.
