Chelsea produced a composed and professional exhibition at Stamford Bridge to see Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in a pre-season friend.

The goals of each half of Estevao and Joao Pedro guaranteed that the world champions were a good value for money for their victory.

The blues started quickly, immediately raising under pressure with a succession of early corners.

In the first 10 minutes, Marc Cucurella, Estevao and Cole Palmer combined well at the bottom of the left, testing Mark Flekken in the goal of visitors.

Andrey Santos and Malo Gusto both tried their luck at a distance, while Liam Delap forced a safeguard.

Leverkusen had his moments on the break, Alex Grimaldo representing the main threat of large areas, forcing Filip Jorgensen into two intelligent long -term stops.

But the first breakthrough occurred in the 18th minute after a wave of pressure from Chelsea. Palmer struck the bar from a tight angle after the Cucurella cross, and the race that followed, Delap saw his efforts saved.

The rebound finally fell with Estevao, who reacted the fastest to break a high left foot shot in the upper corner at close range, giving the blues an advance of 1-0 deserved and marking its beginnings with a goal.

The rest of the first half saw Chelsea in control without adding to their advantage.

The only concern for the Enzo Maresca team came from a few injuries that led to stops, notably to Nathan Tella and Malo Gusto, but Chelsea reached half-time in front without any major fear.

More of the same thing

The second half started with the two managers turning to their benches. Chelsea has made big changes, presenting Reece James, Pedro Neto, Joao Pedro, Jorrel Hato, Dario Essuego and Tosin Adarabioyo, while Leverkusen brought Jeremiah Mensah.

The hosts maintained their intensity, creating shooting opportunities for Estevao, Tyrique George and Pedro Neto, although Mark Flekken continued to work well in the net.

Leverkusen tried to find one foot, Patrik Schick seeing a blank shot blocked and replacing Victor Boniface flashing a wide shot late.

In the last 15 minutes, Chelsea seemed the most likely to score. Neto tested Flekken twice at a distance, while Hato and Gittens combined for another chance that stole just wide.

The introduction by Leverkusen by Ben Hawightrst and Alejo Sarco offered little attack spark, and visitors were more and more forced to make mistakes to stop the Chelsea transitions.

The second goal arrived in the 90th minute. A lively passage in midfield allowed Joao Pedro to find space in the center of the box.

The Brazilian pierced a right low shot in the lower left corner, finally beating Flekken and sealing victory

For Leverkusen and Erik Ten Hag, it was a frustrating evening. They had possession spells but lacked penetration. Flekken was their interpreter off competition, preventing a heavier defeat with several good stops.

For Chelsea, this victory will appeal both players and supporters.

Expectations will be raised in the new season, and it seems that this Blues team will participate in the upper end in 2025-2026.
