  • USPS will again increase prices during the holidays. Price increase will start on October 5 and will take place until January 18. First class costs will not be assigned, but anyone planning to send packages during the holiday season should be ready to pay more.

It is not only the prices and inflation that will lead to the cost of the holidays this year. The American postal service indicates that it will add more supplements to the packages sent between October 5 and January 18 to compensate for the higher shipping costs. This means that you can expect to pay an additional $ 16 cents, depending on the size of the package and the distance is necessary to travel.

Additional costs will apply to individuals and businesses. The USPS has deployed surcharge for at least the last five years (and at least six for commercial customers).

The price increase will only apply to the Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select Service. The higher rates must first be approved by the postal regulatory committee, but this should be a largely ceremonial approval.

“These temporary changes will support the postal service in the creation of a revitalized organization capable of reaching our public service mission – offering an integrated network on a national level for the delivery of mail and packages at least six days a week – in a profitable and financially sustainable long -term manner,” the USPS said in a press release.

Retail customers can expect to pay between 40 cents and $ 3 more for Priority Mail and USPS Ground Advantage for zones 1 to 4 (destinations closer to the shipping location). For more distant destinations, the increase in priority mail varies from 90 cents (for packages from 0 to 3 pounds) to $ 7 (for those between 26 and 70 pounds), the ground advantage for longer journeys will cost between 50 cents and $ 5.75.

The flat rate per priority mail will see an increase of $ 1.45 for large boxes at flat rate, while others will cost 90 cents more. The PRIORITY Mail Express prime rate will jump $ 2 for envelopes.

And customers who use Priority Mail Express can expect to spend between $ 1.10 and $ 16 more, depending on the size of the package and the distance from which it will be necessary to travel.
