Netanyahu rejected international criticism of her plans to extend the war

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Gaza’s ceasefire efforts were now focused on a full agreement to release all the remaining hostages at the same time.

The previously advanced plan was for an initial truce of 60 days and a partial release of the living hostages.

Hamas affirms that a delegation of its leaders is in Cairo for “preliminary talks” with Egyptian officials.

The reports indicate that the mediators see a window of opportunity in the coming weeks to try to conclude an agreement.

After the indirect talks between Israel and Hamas that have broken down last month, Israel announced a controversial plan to expand its military offensive and conquer the entire Gaza Strip – including areas where most of its two million Palestinian residents took refuge.

However, the Israeli media do not expect the new operation to start before October – allowing a time for military preparations, including an implementation of reservists.

In the meantime, witnesses say that Israel has intensified its attacks on Gaza City with intense air strikes during the last day, destroying houses.

Early Wednesday, the Al-Shifa hospital said that seven family members, including five children, had been killed when tents were targeted in Tel Al-Hawa. Al-Ahli Hospital said 10 people had been killed in a strike in a house in the Zaytoun region.

The Israeli military LT, LT Gen Eyal Zamir, “also” approved the main framework for the TSAhal operational plan in the Gaza Strip, “a statement published by the army said.

In an interview with the I24 Israeli television channel presented on Tuesday, Netanyahu was invited to find out if a partial cease-fire was still possible.

“I think it’s behind us,” he replied. “We tried, we made all kinds of attempts, we crossed a lot, but it turned out that they were cheating on us.”

“I want them all,” he said about hostages. “The release of all hostages, both alive and dead – is the scene in which we are.”

The Palestinian armed groups still hold 50 hostages taken in the attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023 which sparked the war. Israel believes that around 20 of them are still alive.

Netanyahu is under internal pressure to guarantee their release as well as on its plans to extend the war.

Last week, anonymous Arab officials would have declared that regional mediators, Egypt and Qatar, were preparing a new framework for an agreement that would involve publishing all the remaining hostages at the same time in exchange for the end of the war and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

However, this will be difficult to do in a short period of time because Israel requires Hamas to abandon the control of Gaza as well as its weapons.

It is probably a question of knowing why, at a press conference on Tuesday, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdeatty, told journalists that Cairo “always made great efforts” with Qatar and the United States – other mediators – to relaunch the previous phase plan.

“The main objective is to return to the original proposal – a 60 -day ceasefire – as well as the release of certain hostages and certain Palestinian prisoners, and the flow of humanitarian and medical aid in Gaza without obstacles or conditions,” said Abdeatty.

The Israeli Prime Minister says that the objectives of Israel have not changed. He says war will only end when all hostages are returned and Hamas surrenders.

Netanyahu said in the end, Israel must keep an open security check on Gaza.

Hamas has long called for a complete agreement to exchange the hostages it holds for Palestinian prisoners in the prisons of Israel. He also wants a complete judgment of Israeli forces and an end of war.

He refuses to disarm unless an independent Palestinian State is created.

Addressing I24, Netanyahu also reiterated an idea that the Palestinians should simply leave the territory by “voluntary” emigration, saying: “They are not pushed, they will be allowed to go out.”

He continued: “All those who are concerned about the Palestinians and say they want to help the Palestinians should open their doors and stop giving us conferences.”

The Palestinians, human rights groups and many members of the international community have warned that any forced displacement of people from Gaza violates international law.

Many Palestinians fear a repetition of what they call “Nakba” when hundreds of thousands have fled or have been forced from their houses in the fighting preceded and after the creation of the State of Israel in 1948.

Most gas are descendants of these original refugees and themselves have an official status of refugees.

Experts supported by the United Nations warned against the course of the widespread famine in Gaza, where Israel has considerably limited the amount of humanitarian aid it allows.

The United Nations Food Global Program has warned that famine and malnutrition have been at the highest level of Gaza since the start of the conflict.

The attack on Hamas in 2023 killed around 1,200 people in Israel, with 251 Gaza sockets as hostages.

The offensive of Israel has since killed at least 61,722 Palestinians, according to the Ministry of Health managed by Hamas. He indicates that 235 people, including 106 children, also died due to famine and malnutrition.
