Mexico has now transferred us more than 50 drug cartel suspects this year

Mexico sent more than two dozen suspicious members of the cartel on Tuesday in the middle of President Donald Trump’s growing pressure to dismantle powerful drug organizations in the country.
Authorities have sent 26 prisoners sought in the United States for links with drug trafficking groups, the office of the Attorney General of Mexico said and the Ministry of Security in a joint statement, in at least the second major transfer this year.
Mexico said the United States Ministry of Justice had asked for their extradition and that it would not ask the death of the accused.
The fact that the Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum allowed another large -scale extradition of Mexican nationals underlines the balancing act with which she is confronted while she seeks to appease Trump while also avoiding unilateral American military action in Mexico.
In a statement, the United States Embassy said that among those who were extradited were key personalities from the Jalisco New Generation cartel and the Sinaloa cartel, who are the two dominant organized crimes of Mexico.
“This transfer is yet another example of what is possible when two governments unite against violence and impunity,” the American ambassador said in Mexico Ronald Johnson in a statement. “These fugitives will now face justice in the American courts, and the citizens of our two nations will be safer.”
Front burnerWho is responsible for the fentanyl crisis?
The United States is established on the fentanyl world supply chain by targeting Mexican and Chinese people with accusation and sanctions. The officials of these countries insist that this is largely an American problem. What really happens in the field in China and Mexico? What impact has reprisals for us? Today, journalist Zachary Siegel explains. For transcriptions of the front burner, please visit: the transcriptions of each episode will be made available by the next working day.
Pressure on Mexico to cooperate
Trump linked prices to Mexico to the murderous trade in fentanyl, saying that the country has not approached the drug cartels quite aggressively. Last week, he ordered the Pentagon to prepare operations against Mexican drug gangs which were appointed world terrorist organizations.
Sheinbaum said the United States and Mexico were approaching a security agreement to extend cooperation in the fight against cartels. But she categorically rejected the Trump administration’s suggestions that she could carry out unilateral military operations in Mexico.
Officials from Canada and Mexico were on a promotional blitz in Washington to boast their efforts to suppress fentanyl traffic and guarantee the border in the hope of retaining prices in the United States
Those who are given to us include Abigael Gonzalez Valencia, a leader of “Los Cuinis”, a group closely aligned with the notorious Cartel Jalisco New Generation, or CJNG. Another accused, Roberto Salazar, is sought after as part of the murder in 2008 of the Los Angeles County Sheriff, Juan Escalante.
Other eminent personalities have links with the Sinaloa cartel and other violent drug trafficking groups, as well as a Sierra Leone National, the United States Ministry of Justice, according to the United States
“These 26 men have all played a role in violence and drugs on the American coast – under this Ministry of Justice, they will face serious consequences on their crimes against this country,” the American prosecutor Pam Bondi said in a statement.
Mexican authorities sent 29 alleged cartel leaders to the United States, including Caro Quintero in February. Quintero had walked freely in 2013 after 28 years in prison when a court canceled his 40 -year sentence for the kidnapping and murder of the US administration of the Enrique drug application (Kiki) Camarena. The brutal murder has scored a low point in American-mexical relations and was documented in cinematographic and television adaptations, including the Netflix series Narcos.
The United States has been plagued by tens of thousands of opioid deaths a year this century, fentanyl fueling the crisis in recent years.
The White House has also used fentanyl flow in the country from Canada as a lever effect in commercial negotiations, although statistical evidence indicates that the drug and its precursors are more likely to flow to Canada from the United States

While the United States has exerted strong pressure on its main trade partners in North America, it seems that the Trump administration has also made concessions on occasion. Mexican security secretary Omar García Harfuch, in May, confirmed a report by a Mexican journalist that 17 family members of Ovidio Guzmán Lopez, who was extradited to the United States in 2023, had obtained entry into the United States as part of an agreement with the Trump administration.
Guzmán Lopez is one of the brothers who cover a faction of the Sinaloa cartel after the notorious Capo Joaquín (El Chapo) Guzmán was imprisoned in the United States
