President Donald Trump announced this year’s recipients for the honors of the Kennedy Center on Wednesday, after revising the board of directors of Washington, DC, at the start of his second term.

Actor Sylvester Stallone, Broadway star Michael Crawford and music artists Gloria Gaynor, George Strait and Kiss will be celebrated at a ceremony that will take place in December that Trump said he would welcome.

Scene and screen laureates have all experienced important and award -winning careers, although, in some cases, are personally known for Trump. Trump said he was “98%” involved in selections; Before this year, a bipartite advisory committee has historically chosen beneficiaries.

Trump was in a jocular mood for a large part of his freewheeling presentations when Washington’s announcement, mixing politics – including praise for republican senators John Thune and Lindsey Graham – and self -proclaimed staff for the legislation and achievements of his administration. It was a contrast to its representation of the city as being “taken care of by violent gangs and criminals thirsty for blood” and “drugged maniacs and homeless”, which led to a controversial federal military intervention in the capital.

Trump a non-presentation in the first term

President Dwight Eisenhower launched the process of establishing the center in the late 1950s and, in 1964, President Lyndon Johnson and the Congress established that he would bear the name of President, recently killed John F. Kennedy.

Since the late 1970s, the main theater has organized an event in December by honoring a wide range of artists, more than 250 at this stage, which contributed to American culture.

Trump did not attend any of these ceremonies during his first mandate.

Trump, in the first weeks of his second presidency, dismissed the Center’s board of directors and appointed the new president. Although it is not unusual for a president to appoint friends and allies to the Kennedy board of directors, Trump essentially gave a previous bipartite composition of the members of the board of directors in a decision which was reflected in agencies and commissions undoubtedly more important.

The overhaul sparked a reaction among many artists, with some cancellation performances in the various places of Kennedy Center, or unmissiant of its advisory advice.

Concerns has been expressed that Trump would politicize his signature event or make the process of selecting unrecognizable recipients. During his first mandate, he was accused of having evaluated the presidential medal of freedom, with athletes – sometimes friends and knowledge of Trump – apparently overrepresented.

The center has generally ignored the political affiliations of its price recipients. Eminent liberals such as Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty were honored during the administration of the Republican George W. Bush, and a main curator, Charlton Heston, was celebrated during the administration of the Democrat Bill Clinton.

Trump said on Wednesday without showing that the center had been “declining” and complained of “Woke Programming”.
