Ravichandran Ashwin reveals the shocking tip of “additional money” behind the IPL CSK agreement for Dewald Brevis

In a controversial revelation which sparked an important debate in the world of franchise cricket, Indian Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin alleged that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) paid a sum of money ‘Under the table’ To secure the services of the young South African dough Dewald Brevis during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. While the performance on the Brevis field for the team was a success, Ashwin’s claims threw a shadow of doubt about the rules for replacing the league players and the ethical integrity of its salary ceiling system.
Ravichandran Ashwin reveals the controversial signature of Dewald Brevis by CSK
In the middle of season IPL 2025, the CSK, in the desperate need for a boost, signed the very classified Brevis as a replacement player for the injured Gurjapneet Singh. The official announcement of the IPL said that Brevis had been signed for 2.2 INR crore, which corresponded to the price for which Gurjapneet was initially acquired. However, Ashwin, in a detailed video of his YouTube channel, said it was not the complete story. He alleged that CSK had to pay a higher and unofficial amount to land the young talents.
According to Ashwin, according to India today, several other franchises had also approached Brevis for a replacement agreement, but were retained because they did not want to pay the costs requested from the player, which was higher than the official price.
Ashwin said, “I’m going to say something to you. About Brevis. He had a good time in CSK. In fact, a few teams spoke to him. Some teams left him because of the price. When he was supposed to be signed in replacement, he was supposed to be signed at the basic price. But what is happening is that you are talking to the agents and the player will say, I will come,” Ashwin said.
I won’t know seriously, he’s talking about it ???

Ashwin’s explanation of the economy “under the table” of the IPL
Ashwin has not framed the problem as a singular body but as a symptom of a broader problem in the rules of the league. He explained the negotiation power of players as Brevis, who include their high market value. According to Ashwin, when a player is approached for a mid-season replacement, they and his agents may require more than the official basic price using its future value as a lever effect.
Ashwin has developed this concept, declaring, “What is happening is that you are talking to the agents and that the player will say that if you give me an additional amount, I will come. It happens because the player knows if he is released next season, he will go for good money. So, his concept was that, you pay me well now, otherwise I will go for more next year. And CSK was ready to pay it, so he came.”
The Brevis field performance for the CSK has been exceptional, making it a crucial part of the push of the team’s season. From only six games, he broke 225 points at an amazing typing rate of 180, marking two half-century. While his performance justified the continuation of the team of him, the allegations of Ashwin moved the attention of the player’s success on the field to the ethical implications of the agreement.
