Documentary on the attack on Hamas on October 7 to detect TIFF after resolution with the director
The Toronto International Film Festival says that a documentary on Hamas’ attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023, is now an official selection and will be projected at the festival after being initially disinpitated.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey and filmmaker Barry Avrich said they reached a resolution after hearing the public’s pain and frustration “.
In a joint declaration, the festival and the director say they have solved “important security, legal and programming problems” around the film, entitled The road between us: ultimate rescue.
The documentary follows the mission of the general of TSCLE-FRARCOME to retirement Noam Tibon to save his family during the attacks of Hamas, during which 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 hostages were taken, according to Israeli accounts.
Earlier this week, the organizers of the festival said they had withdrawn the documentary because it did not meet certain requirements concerning security problems and “the legal authorization of all images”.
The decision launched an international outcry, including certain Jewish groups and politicians. The filmmakers also accused the censorship festival.
Tiff said on Wednesday that he was working with the documentary team to find a way to project the film.
The press release said Tiff apologized for not having clearly expressed his concerns.
TIFF takes place from September 4 to 14.
