Watch: how the Trump-Putin’s summit took place in 82 seconds

US President Donald Trump left Alaska without an agreement to put an end to the war in Ukraine, following a raised challenge meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

“There is no agreement before there was an agreement,” Trump told world media after the meeting, adding that “great progress” were made but “we did not get there”.

During his return flight to Washington, he appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who later declared that he would go to Washington on Monday. European leaders were also on the call.

Despite the fanfare around the summit – and Trump’s confidence to be able to reach a ceasefire – no tangible progress has been made towards a resolution of the war in Ukraine.

Each stage of the arrival of the leaders at the Elmendorf-Richardson joint base in Anchorage has been carefully choreographed.

Putin, who faces an arrest warrant against the international criminal court for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, left her jet and on a red carpet to be warmly welcomed by Trump.

During the roar of a B2 bomber above, the two leaders posed for photos before climbing in Trump’s presidential vehicle, known as the beast.

But despite the ceremonial and public shows of the generation – as well as the Kremlin’s previous estimate that the meeting could last six or seven hours – Trump and Putin emerged less than three hours later with just a joint press statement.

Putin said that, in order to make a “lasting and long -term regulation, we must eliminate the deep causes of the conflict” in Ukraine.

The sentence said Putin has not moved from its long -standing position that Ukraine should withdraw from four regions partially occupied by Russia – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia – and abandon its efforts to join the NATO military alliance.

Zelensky has excluded from withdrawing from the region to the four assistants, warning who would leave the door open to Russia embraced to set another offensive in the future. Moscow launched its large -scale invasion of Ukraine over three years ago, after annexing the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.

Putin also urged Ukrainians and Europeans to “do not throw a key” in the peace process. Trump remained silent while his guest spent about eight minutes to contact the media.

After receiving the floor, the American president said that he had “a fantastic relationship with President Putin. Vladimir”, going to the name of the Russian chief.

Even if “many points have been accepted,” he said, “some” remain, adding that “one is the most important”-without specifying what this key snack. None of the two answered the questions.

The two also did not attend the expected bilateral “working lunch” which was to follow the talks.

An interview on Fox News after the meeting offered some additional details.

The meeting went “very well,” Trump told Sean Hannity, adding “maybe we will have a good result”.

Before the Alaska meeting, Trump had threatened “very serious consequences” if his Russian counterpart had not agreed to end the war. In July, he said he would impose 100% secondary prices targeting the remaining business partners of Russia if a peace agreement with Ukraine was not reached within 50 days.

But wondered about Fox News in the place where the meeting left these threats, Trump said: “We don’t have to think about it today.”

“Maybe in two weeks, three weeks,” he said, “but the meeting went very well.”

Asked about a possible trilateral summit, including Zelensky, Trump said: “They both want me there and I will be there”, without giving a date or meeting place.

The Ukrainian leader who, like Putin, aroused a range of Trump reactions was visibly absent from the Ukrainian meeting which, like Putin, sparked a range of reactions from Trump.

The two had a long call on the flight to Washington DC, before other NATO leaders, including British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, joined the conversation.

Zelensky said he would go to Washington on Monday to meet Trump and support Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting.

He noted “positive signals on the American side concerning participation in the security of security of Ukraine” – something that European allies asked in the context of a combined effort to prevent another conflict.

People in Ukraine can push a sigh of relief that no agreement would give in the territory to Russia had been reached.

But they can also be alarmed that Putin continued to use a rhetoric that seeks to justify the original objective of the invasion – to dismantle Ukraine as an independent state.
