The singer Sean Kingston was sentenced to three and a half years in prison on Friday after being found guilty of a $ 1 million fraud program in which he exploited his fame to dive the sellers to give him luxury items that he never paid.

Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Paul Anderson, and his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, were sentenced in March by a federal conspiracy jury in order to commit fraud by wire and four chiefs of wire. Turner was sentenced to five years in prison last month.

Before the American judge, David Leibowitz brought Kingston’s sentence, the singer apologized to the judge in the hearing room in southern Florida and said that he had learned his actions. His lawyer asked if he could self-assist on a later date due to health problems, but the judge immediately ordered him in police custody. Kingston, who wore a black suit and a white shirt, removed his costume jacket and was handcuffed and directed from the courtroom.

The assistant prosecutor of the United States Marc Anton described Kingston as someone drug addict in his celebrity lifestyle even if he could no longer afford to maintain him.

“He clearly does not like to pay and relies on his celebrity status to defraud his victims,” said Anton on Friday.

The federal prosecutor described a model of several years by Kingston of intimidation for luxury goods, then refusing to pay.

“He is a thief and a conman, clear and simple,” said Anton.

Defense lawyer, Zeljka Bozanic, replied that Kingston, 35, had the mentality of a teenager – the age he had when he made celebrity. The lawyer said Kingston had almost no knowledge of his finances, based on business leaders and his mother.

“No one has shown him how to invest their money,” said Bozanic. “The money has entered and the money was released on superficial things.”

Bozanic said Kingston had already started to reimburse his victims and intends to reimburse every penny once he is free and can start working again.

Leibowitz rejected the idea that Kingston was unintelligent or naive, but the judge said that he had granted Kingston’s credit for accepting responsibility and refused to testify rather than lie to the court. This contrasts with Kingston’s mother, whose testimony to Leibowitz trial described as an obstruction.

Kingston and his mother were arrested in May 2024 after a Swat team made a descent into Kingston’s rented manor in the suburbs of Fort Lauderdale. Turner was placed in police custody during the raid, while Kingston was arrested in Fort Irwin, an army training base in the Mojave desert in California, where he performed.

According to the judicial archives, Kingston used social media from April 2023 to March 2024 to organize the purchases of luxury goods. After negotiating agreements, Kingston would invite sellers to one of his high -end houses in Florida and promised to present them as well as their products on social networks.

Investigators said that when the time had come to pay, Kingston or his mother was texting the false received from the victims for the articles, which included an escalation to the ball, watches and a television led by 19 feet (5.9 meters), the investigators said.

When the funds have never been erased, the victims often contacted Kingston and Turner on several occasions, but have never been paid or have received money only after having brought the law enforcement, the authorities said.

Kingston, who was born in Florida and grew up in Jamaica, took glory at the age of 17 with the 2007 tube “Beautiful Girls”, who posed his words on the song by Ben E. King “Stand by Me”. His other hits include “Take You There” from 2007 and “Fire Burning” from 2009.
