Before directing the first cinematographic adaptation animates with Ghost in the shell, The director Mamoru Oshii made his own original works, including Angel egg. The film will be 40 years later this year and to celebrate, the Gkids distributor offers it for the first time in North American theaters.

From November 19, theaters across the country will put a 4K restoration of the film on the big screen. Created by Oshii and the designer of characters Yoshitaka Amano, the post-apocalyptic film features a young girl protecting an egg and a young boy with mysterious dreams on a bird. The film was notably the first original work of Oshii – and has themes that would remain in its subsequent work – and have very little spoken dialogue. At the time, the public did not connect fully with him because of his biblical allegories and his senses, but it increased in estimation over time. Last May, he screened at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
