The selectors have opted for a mixture of experience and young talents, making their faith in a new group of leadership. Salman Agha was appointed captain of the team.

Babar and Ricewan have not been one of the recent T20i assignments in Pakistan and their absence from the Asian Cup team confirms the selectors’ intention to look beyond the two senior strikers, at least in the shortest format.

Babar, who was last time in a T20i in December 2024, presented glimpses in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) With scores of 56 *, 53 * and 94 for Peshawar Zalmi. However, he had trouble in the ODI series against the Antilles with dozens of 47, 0 and 9. Ricewan, similarly, was not in the T20i mix of Pakistan since the tours of Bangladesh and the Antilles earlier this year. He too had mixed outings in the recent ODI series, recording 53 in the first match, but failing in the following two with scores of 16 and 0.
