Putin agreed to leave us, Europe offering NATO style security protections for Ukraine, says Trump sent

Special American envoy Steve Witkoff said on Sunday that Russian chief Vladimir Putin had agreed at his summit with President Donald Trump to allow the American and European allies to offer Ukraine a security guarantee resembling the NATO collective defense mandate as part of a possible agreement to end the war of 3 1/2.
“We were able to win the following concession: that the United States could offer type 5 protection, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be in NATO,” he said on the “union” of CNN. He added that “it was the first time that we have heard that the Russians agreed”.
The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, speaking during a press conference in Brussels with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that “we welcome the will of President Trump to contribute to type 5 security guarantees for Ukraine, and the” coalition of wills ” – including the European Union – is ready to do its part.
Witkoff, offering some of the first details of what was discussed at the summit on Friday in Alaska, said that the two parties accepting “robust security guarantees that I would describe as a change of game”. He added that Russia said it would make a legislative commitment not to go after an additional territory in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy thanked the United States for recent signals that Washington is ready to support security guarantees for Ukraine, but said the details were blurred.
“It is important that America agrees to work with Europe to provide security guarantees to Ukraine,” he said. “But there is no detail about how it will work, and what will be the role of America, the role of Europe will be and what the EU can do, and it is our main task, we need security to work in practice such as article 5 of NATO, and we consider that the support of the EU is part of the security guarantees.”
Witkoff defended Trump’s decision to abandon his thrust so that the Russian accepts an immediate cease-fire, saying that the president had pivoted a peace agreement because so much progress has been made.
“We have covered almost all the other problems necessary for a peace agreement,” said Witkoff, without developing.
“We have started to see a certain moderation in the way they plan to conclude a final peace agreement,” he said.
The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, insisted that there would be “additional consequences” as Trump warned before meeting Putin, if they did not manage to a cease-fire. But Rubio noted that there would be no transaction on a truce reached when Ukraine was not in talks.
“Now, in the end, if there is not a peace agreement, if there is no end of war, the president has been clear, there will be consequences,” said Rubio on “this week” of ABC. “But we try to avoid this. And the way we try to avoid these consequences is with an even better consequence, which is peace, the end of hostilities.”
Rubio, who is also Trump’s national security advisor, said that he did not think that the issuance of new sanctions against Russia would force Putin to accept a cease-fire, noting that the latter is not outside the table but that “the best way to put an end to this conflict is by a complete peace agreement”.
“At the minute when you emit new sanctions, your ability to bring them to the table, our ability to bring them to the table will be seriously reduced,” said Rubio on “Meet The Press” of NBC.
He also said: “We are not on the precipice of a peace agreement” and that going there would not be easy and would take a lot of work.
“We have made progress in the sense that we have identified potential agreements of agreement, but there are still major areas of disagreement. So we are still far,” said Rubio.
The leaders of Zelenskyy and Europeans should meet on Monday with Trump in the White House. They heard the president after meeting Putin.
“I think everyone agreed that we had made progress. Perhaps not enough for a peace agreement, but we are on the way for the first time,” said Witkoff.
He added: “The fundamental question, which is a kind of exchange of land, which is obviously ultimately in the control of the Ukrainians – which could not have been discussed during this meeting” with Putin. “We intend to discuss it on Monday. I hope we have a certain clarity on this subject and I hope it is found in a peace agreement very, very soon.”
