Three states led by the Republicans send troops of the National Guard to DC

Three American states led by the Republicans will send members of their National Guard for Washington, DC to strengthen the 800 soldiers of President Donald Trump in the city.
The governor of Virginia-Western, Parick Morrisey, said that he would send 300-400 of the Trump National Guard troops to Trump’s request. South Carolina will send 200 soldiers and Ohio will send 150 military police officers from their national guard, said their governors.
Trump said a “public security emergency” on Monday, saying that the country’s Capitol was seized by “a complete and total anarchy”.
The elected officials of Washington DC opposed these claims, and hundreds of DC residents paraded on Saturday.
The agents of several federal laws for applying the law spent the week to patrol the most populated and most touristy areas of Washington alongside the troops of the National Guard.
Much to Washington DC, where 92% of residents voted for vice-president Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections, his frustration expressed in the face of Trump’s application policy.
The residents took the shooting of federal officers while they are patrolling and during the weekend, frustration extended to peaceful demonstrations against the administration.
The walkers gathered in Dupont Circle, a central center of the city, and walked in the streets chanting “Free DC!” Some have struck drums and have ranged from bells while walking.
Residents of Washington, DC, have expressed concerns about crime in surveys, and a former employee of the Ministry of Efficiency of the Trump Administration (DOGE) was recently attacked and beaten in the city.
Trump painted a portrait of the national capital as assailed by “violent gangs and blood thirsty”.
But mayor Muriel Bowser rejected Trump’s claims on crawling crime in the city. She recognized that there had been a crime peak in 2023 which has since deposited.
Data from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) show that homicides dropped by 32% between 2023 and 2024 and have reached their lowest level since 2019.
Preliminary data show that violent crimes on the whole are down 26% so far in 2025, compared to the same point in 2024, according to MPD data. The flight has dropped by 28%, the BBC checks the reports.
The Trump administration initially attempted to take command of the city’s metropolitan police department using the rule of the domicile of the Columbia district, but canceled the order after the city officials brought them before the courts.
However, Judge Ana Reyes said mayor Bowser should follow the White House guidelines.
