US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, the end of the war between Moscow and kyiv appears on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In an article on Truth Social, Trump said that Zelenskyy could “end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wanted, or he can continue to fight”.

“Remember how it started. No recovery of Obama who gave Crimea (12 years ago, without having been pulled!), And not to enter NATO by Ukraine,” added Trump in the post, reflecting the requests of the Kremlin for the recognition of his annexation of Crimea and so that Ukraine is excluded from the NATO Alliance.

Russia seized the Crimean Peninsula of Ukraine in 2014 and supported the separatists in eastern Ukraine, a decision which was largely condemned by the international community. Moscow then launched a large -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Trump’s comments become before a meeting of August 18 in Washington with Zelenskyy and a number of European leaders.

The rally follows Trump’s talks on August 15 with its Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska, which lasted three hours but did not give a cease-fire agreement, although the American president described the talks as “productive”.

Trump would have said to Zelenskyy after the meeting with Putin that Moscow had proposed to freeze most of the front lines in Ukraine in exchange for the withdrawal of kyiv from the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Zelenskyy had rejected the proposal before the summit, saying that this would deprive Ukraine in key defensive positions and would allow Moscow to launch other offensives in Ukraine. Kyiv currently has about a quarter of Donetsk, including his so-called “fortress belt” of cities.

In an interview with Fox News after the meeting with Putin, Trump urged Zelenskyy to conclude an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. “Listen, Russia is very great power, and (Ukraine is not). They are great soldiers,” he said.

In 2024, the Secretary of State of the United States, Anthony Blinken, told the United Nations: “If Russia stops fighting, war ends. If Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ends.”
