Texas police “wrongly” released from prison

Texas police are looking for a man who, according to them, was “mistakenly” released from prison when he was to start a sentence of seven years.
Tory Dugas, 36, had been sentenced to five years in state prison for having attacked a family member and two years for having escaped the arrest, said the Harris county sheriff.
Instead, Dugas, who had been in Harris County prison since Thursday for other charges that were rejected, was released at 4:30 am on Sunday.
An “in -depth investigation” is underway to determine the reason for his “erroneous liberation” of prison, said the sheriff’s office.
It seems that the prison staff did not “properly documented their prison sentence in his file,” the office said in a statement. This led to the hypothesis that Dugas was eligible for liberation.
Police spokesman Jason Spencer was cited by the Houston Chronicle saying that the prison had not realized that Dugas was missing before Monday morning, when the officials checked the list of people intended to be transferred to the state care.
Police asked the public to contact them if he spotted Dugas.
This is not the first time that Harris County prison has wrongly released someone.
Earlier this year, a man arrested for capital murder was released from prison after being confused for someone else with the same name. However, the man went after being free for 24 hours.
