This scientist and founder of intestinal health of the millennium juggles with 5 jobs and 2 children – she has a “strict” coffee routine and swears by a $ 20 fresh fruit habit per day

Being in the following it is high pressure work with long hours, responsibilities of the board of directors and a meticulous examination. But what is it to be a senior manager when you are up to par?
Fortune The series, The Good Life, shows how promising leaders spend their time and their money outside of work.
Today, we meet Dr. Megan Rossi, the 36 -year -old awarded intestinal health scientist, the regular television and the successful author known as The intestinal health doctor.
Raised in Cairns, Australia, by a single mother, Rossi’s career journey was shaped very early by the loss of family: the battle of his grandmother against intestine cancer in his last year of university in 2009.
“I watched her go through chemotherapy and surgery, feeling frustrated by the intestine for what he had done to him,” recalls Rossi Fortune. “Shortly after, I sat in a conference on the signs of early alert of the intestine cancer and I could not help wondering if we talked more openly about intestinal health, his story could have ended differently? This question has remained with me since.”
Experience pushed her to devote her life to intestinal health. She obtained a doctorate in probiotics, called the health problems of cardiac diseases in type 2 diabetes as a clinical dietitian and has become the nutritionist of the Australian Olympic swimming team before moving to London.
Since then, she has built a portfolio career that extends to science, publishing, influence and entrepreneurship: Rossi conducts intestinal health research at the University King’s College in London, manages her private cabinet, “The Gut Health, has co -founded the 20 million pounds sterling food brand ($ 27 million) Organic and me– which sold more than 35 million portions of “kindness that love the intestine” in British supermarkets – and is known as “The Gut Health Doctor”, on the ITV This morning.

Organic and me
Earlier this year, Rossi launched Smart strains A new range of lively targeted bacteria clinically designed to replace unique probiotics. She faced 11 refusals before withdrawing the product, but in the eight weeks following the launch, she says that the line was sold in large retailers as boots. He carries the total number of companies and parallel concerts in his five portfolio.
And between the management of two brands of fast -growing food and supplements, conducting a team of specialized dietitians, publishing research and raising two young children, a 20 -minute platoon ride has become its reset button when everything becomes too much.
Finances
Fortune: What was the best investment you ever bought?
The peloton. I was reluctant to get one because they are so expensive and you have to pay the monthly costs in addition to the real bike. But this is actually the best investment because even if I have only 15 minutes, I can do something positive for my health. With two young children and a busy professional life, it helped remove this barrier to exercise for me.
And the worst?
Probably spending thousands of baby products (including a certain pram, as well as a rocker that shakes the pram and an expensive high chair) that we found that we really didn’t need, or that we only used.
If you have children, what do your childcare services look like?
We are very lucky because we really have a nanny to support us, and my husband is able to spend half a day per week with the children as well. One of our sons is now also going to the nursery, which definitely helps.
What are your lifestyle: a chic apartment in the city or in a sprawling suburbs?
We live in central London in an apartment, but we recently moved to a house on the outskirts. We are always well connected to the city, but it only changes the game for children in terms of additional space to play. And for me? I now have an office space designated upstairs. It is far from the small hangar of my garden where I worked – who said, I launched three companies from this small space, so it will always be sentimental for me.
Do you invest in shares?
No, I failed to immerse myself in this side of things – but never say! I have a financial advisor who advises me with regard to pensions, but not yet an investment. If you are looking to focus on your finances, my advice would be to get the support of someone who knows what he does and has a good record!
What personal finance advice would you give to yourself 20 years old?
I have always been a saver, not spending. I believe that if you focus on career growth, money will follow. At the beginning, I chose research on more paid industry roles, which shaped my career path and opened the door to entrepreneurship. Do not pursue short -term money – think of the longer -term financial objectives.
What is the only subscription you can’t live?
It must be a pact coffee. The fresh delivery of coffee has changed the situation. I love the smell of fresh coffee – it’s one of my “morning moments”. From the point of view of an intestinal health scientist, coffee is rich in polyphenols, so I like to think that it is also a good investment for our microbiomas.
The necessities
How do you get your daily coffee solution?
We have a Rocket coffee machine at home, which is obsessed with my husband. You have to buy a separate crusher, but it makes the perfect coffee.
I am quite strict with my coffee – I just have one per day, then I go to the decaf, and I may have two or three per day. This is because I am quite sensitive to caffeine, so that prevents me from obtaining these afternoon assaults.
And because I am entitled to such an incredible coffee at home, I find it really difficult to get a delicious coffee when I am on the go. My essential order would be an Americano with hot oats milk in a take -out cup, so it remains good and warm, particularly important during the winter months!

Organic and me
What about eating on the go?
I generally do not buy breakfast on the go. I will usually bring an organic oat bar & me Flapjack or a pot of porridge from my home, or take a piece of fruit while I am going out to get fed.
For lunch, I generally avoid pre-battered sandwiches because I find that they contain too much mayonnaise, butter and additives, so I will usually do mine! For example, from loan, I generally buy a Nicoise salad and a bread so that I can pile up the salad in the roller to obtain these complex carbohydrates that keep me longer.
For more diversity, I will always try to enter a supermarket and also obtain fresh fruit. I generally spend about £ 15 ($ 20). If you try to feed your microbiome on the move, my advice is that the mixture and correspondence is the way to follow!
Where do you buy the grocery store?
My go-to is Ocado for more convenience. I fail to spend hours in the grocery store because it is one of my favorite hobbies, especially by looking at all the new products. But I think that when you have young children and you work a lot, it’s not an option, so I go for Ocado.
How often during a week do you dine in relation to cooking at home?
Again, with young children, we may be going out once a month in London only both, and try to go to a new field. Regarding take -out dishes, we always tend to opt for a proven favorite, which is generally a Thai from Busaba. We get this on Deliveroo maybe once a week.
What would be a typical working outfit for you?
I am terrible in clothing purchases. When I need to appear well, I have a stylist that puts outfits for me. My favorite brands go from Mint Velvet and Reiss, to LK Bennett and COS. I am happy when it happens in the summer and I can stop wearing pants because I prefer dresses. But as I am an Australian living in the United Kingdom, I often find it too cold!
As my career has progressed, I am just a little more aware than if I am on television, I must look a little more professional. Hence the stylist.
Are you the proud owner of futuristic gadgets?
I tried some of the fitness follow -up watches, but I never really succeeded, or I discovered that they have made my life particularly better in any way. I think you can overlook. For example, this can make you more stressed if you notice that you have had less sleep (or sleep of best quality) than you thought. This can do too much analysis and put an additional pressure.
The treats
How do you relax the best job?
The peloton. When I am stressed in the evening, I like to relax with a 20 -minute peloton session. When you have young children, you don’t really have much time alone. I could not work things like a weekly gym lesson in my routine since I have children. I hope that when they age a little, I will come back, but for the moment, it changes the situation for me.
What is the best bonus treat you buy?
As a rule, when I receive a bonus, I don’t make madness – I save. I am focused on the future, maybe at fault. Like many entrepreneurs, I always think of the next challenge, sometimes worried that stopping to celebrate can untangle everything!
Take us on vacation with you, what is the next step on your vacation list?
We have just been in Crete, what we love. We have not always been good to take a vacation – my husband is an NHS doctor and we both have been very carefully focused on to date. But now that children are a little older, we consciously prioritize family time and make these memories. We do a week without children every year, generally skiant while the grandparents intervene, and we visit Australia each year to see my mom. Although we lived new destinations on each trip, we now find ourselves returning to favorites like Italy and Crete, reintegrated by incredible food and their families.
How many days of annual leave do you take per year?
It’s hard to say, because I work especially when I am absent – I’m always on my phone, I always join meetings, so everything continues to shoot. Real days of annual leave are very difficult when you are a business owner.
