The big leap of Google forward for real -time translations is in depth your voice

I cannot count the number of times I promised the next great thing in the translation compatible with the application. Since the dawn of Google translate, he felt like technological companies (not only Google, but Samsung and Apple also) have teased a future where speech can be translated instantly, allowing almost transparent communication between people of * sarcastic spongebob voice * around the world. But the truth is that this future, so attractive on paper, did not go exactly.
As incredible as applications have obtained the translation of speech and text with a fairly high degree of precision, they have not completely increased by the speed and cadence of real conversations. Design a translation tool that can follow the rhythm of our mouth (as, in fact talk) is not an easy feat. We are talking about quickly, and we expect even faster answers, which makes translation live less than a marathon than a sprint, or I suppose more precisely, a sprint that could be a long marathon.
Given this long promise of translation in real time, I am conditioned to ride an eye or two when live translating enters a Keynote, which is exactly what I did during the annual event of the annual pixel of Google. This year, however, this eye roll may not be justified. On this subject by Google Keynote, Google presented a functionality which translates not only your speech in real time, but also deeply your real voice (also in near) so that the person at the other end can hear you speak in their mother tongue. And yes, it also works on the other hand. It is true, only two depths talk to each other; Nothing to see here, friends.
And the extra wild part was Google so confident in its new live translation feature that it offered a live demo, which I will not lie … Is it a bit nailed? The editor -in -chief of Gizmodo, Consumer Tech, Raymond Wong, captured everything live at Google. For your viewing pleasure, Jimmy Fallon’s voice has deeply fixed in Spanish:
Wow, the voice of Jimmy Fallon was translated – Faille – in Spanish on Pixel 10… and that worked quickly and with precision. Even correct inflections. This is the function of AI that changes the situation … translations pic.twitter.com/saxeowcxpe

I also looked from my home during this segment, and my partner, which is Hispanophone and bilingual, confirmed that the new functionality of Translais de Google seemed to the assignment, inflections and everything. Don’t get me wrong, I always want to test these translation features by myself, but at first glance, Google left quite incredible here.
The supply of these translation capacities is Gemini Nano, a compact version of the large and more iterated language model of Google and the Tensor G5 chip of the Tensor of Pixel 10. Google says that its Nano model and the translation functionality are executed on the device in this case, which means that nothing – including your calls – is teleported to the cloud while you translate. This makes its new feature less heartbreaking, and I say “less” in this case because let’s be honest, this thing is always in depth your voice.
To tell the truth, if Google’s new translation feature not On the disc, I could be a little worried. As cool as it is, the idea of having a facsimile of your voice stored on a server somewhere is bad, since people use biometrics for all kinds of important digital security, the banking services included. And in a way, on the device or not, the functionality is always frightening. Apparently, we are at the Deepfakes instant voice stage. Imagine what AI can do with a little time and training.
But more than anything, I am impressed by what Google has shown today, especially since someone who looked at technological companies overpromised on translation features for years at this stage. It is still too early to declare that Google struck the Holy Grail of the translation in real time, but for once, I left that the idea of transparent translations and compatible with the phone actually leaps. So consider my roller with officially canceled eyes, Google.
