Trump says that Intel agreed to give the government 10% of the flea manufacturer. “We make a lot of offers like that. I will do more of them ‘

President Donald Trump said on Friday that the American chip manufacturer Intel agreed to give the US government a 10%stake, which represents around $ 10 billion.
“They have had mismanagement over the years and they have lost themselves. I said, “I think you should pay us 10% of your business”, and they said “yes”. This represents about $ 10 billion.
Intel has already received around $ 11 billion in subsidies to build manufacturing in the United States under the chips and science act adopted by the congress during the Biden administration.
Under the new agreement with Trump, the government will take capital in exchange for the grant allocated to Intel through the flea law, the New York Times reported. The government will not be involved in business governance or will claim a seat from the board of directors, the Times reported.
Intel shares jumped 5.5%.
An Intel spokesperson refused to comment Fortune. The White House did not immediately respond to FortuneComment request.
Commerce secretary, Howard Lungick, previously described the plans for the United States government to receive equity in exchange for cash grants from the Puces Act that Intel has received.
“We should obtain a participation for our money, so we will deliver the money that was already committed under the Biden administration,” Larnick told CNBC earlier this week.
Trump said the agreement had come after a conversation with the CEO of Intel Lip-Bu Tan, which he had previously called to resign in an article on his social media website Truth Social.
Trump said on Friday that he called for the eviction of Tan due to a letter that Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) Sent to the President of Intel, expressing his concern about Tan’s ties with Chinese companies. After Trump’s position, Tan went to Washington for a meeting with Trump last week.
“He entered wanting to keep his job and he ended up giving us $ 10 billion for the American people,” Trump said on Friday.
The Intel agreement comes as the Trump administration has shown a recent desire to play a more interventionist role with American companies. As a condition of the merger between Japanese Steel and US Steel, the administration asked to appoint a member of the board of directors to the combined entity and obtained a “gold share”, which gives it a right of opportunity on the decisions of the company.
The United States has also recently concluded an income sharing agreement with NVIDIA and AMD flea manufacturers, giving the government 15% of sales generated through AI flea sales in China as part of its conditions for the granting of export licenses to companies. Treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, said that last week, similar agreements could be extended to other industries.
Some Republicans, including Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Criticized Trump’s plan for the United States government to take interest in Intel.
“If socialism is the government which has the means of production, the government having a part of Intel would it not be a step towards socialism? A terrible idea,” wrote Paul on Wednesday in an article on X.
However, Trump was not discouraged by criticism and noted on Friday that the government will continue its interventionist path as long as the agreements do not injure the American army or security.
“We do a lot of transactions like that. I will do more of them,” he said.
