Watch: how the FBI raids on the house and office of John Bolton took place

Friday, FBI agents searched the home of the former national security adviser by Donald Trump, John Bolton, as part of an apparent survey on the processing of classified information.

The high -level republican assistant has been a vocal critic of Trump since he left his first administration in 2019, and was previously accused by the White House of having abasted classified information in his story in 2020 of working with the president.

The FBI did not comment in detail, but sources familiar with research told CBS News that it was partly linked to classified documents.

Bolton – Who has not yet commented on the investigation – has not been detained and no criminal accusation has been filed.

The journalists asked what the investigation was talking about, Trump said he did not want to “get involved” in the issue, but called Bolton as “Sleazebag”. The president said that he had not directly ordered the searches.

In an interview with NBC News, vice-president JD Vance said that classified documents were “partially part of (the investigation)” and also referred to “a great concern” about Bolton, without offering more details.

He said that the FBI would not assert a case against Bolton that “they determine that he had violated the law” and said that the investigation was not politically motivated, as democratic politicians said.

Friday morning, police vehicles and FBI staff were seen at Bolton’s home in the suburbs of Washington DC in Bethesda, Maryland, some of which were seen to take boxes inside the property.

In a statement sent to CBS, the FBI said that it was carrying out an “authorized activity in the region”.

FBI agents were also seen at the Bolton office in Washington DC.

Bolton returned to his Maryland house on Friday afternoon but did not speak to journalists outside.

In 2020, Bolton was the author of the room where it happened, a dissertation telling his time working in the first Trump administration between 2018 and 2019, which was fiercely critical of the president.

It has been written that “a mountain of facts shows that Trump is unfit to be president”.

The Ministry of Justice accused Bolton of a “blatant violation” of an agreement so as not to disclose classified questions, but the trial was abandoned in June 2021, when Joe Biden was president.

As the research began, the director of the FBI, Kash Patel, posted on X: “No one is above the law”. The position did not specifically refer to Bolton.

The Attorney General Pam Bondi shared the position and added: “America’s security is not negotiable. Justice will be continued. Always.”

BOLTON – Who was Ambassador of the UN of George W Bush – made sure that his protection of the secret services stripped by the Trump administration in January, as well as several other former officials who clashed with the president.

Bolton has also publicly questioned the treatment of war between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump was very critical of Bolton in public, accusing him of putting pressure on American military intervention abroad during his time as a national security advisor.

Other Trump adversaries – including the Prosecutor General of New York Letitia James and the Democratic Senator of California Adam Schiff – have also been subjected to investigations since his return.
