Israel has made many strikes on Houthi targets after their attacks on Israel

Israel made air strikes against Houthi targets in the capital of Yemen, Sanaa, in response to the group’s missile attack on Friday, which, according to Israel, said cluster ammunition.

The Israeli operation has targeted a military complex housing the presidential palace, a fuel deposit and power plants.

Four people were killed and 67 injured, Houthi officials said.

The Israeli army said that the Houthi strike was the first use of these bombs by the Houthis supported by Iran during the current conflict with Israel, local media and AP reported.

The Israeli army would have investigated the reason why it has not been able to intercept the missile bearing ammunition, which are prohibited by more than 100 countries.

The reprisal operation on Sanaa was supervised by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Minister of Defense Israel Katz, the Israeli government publishing a photograph showing the Prime Minister to the Tel Aviv Center of Command.

“Whoever attacks us – we attack them. Whoever plans to attack us – we attack them. I believe that the whole region learns the power and determination of the State of Israel,” said the Prime Minister afterwards.

After Friday’s attack, the Houthis published a video showing bombs dispersing the air.

Israeli defense forces (FDI) told the media on Sunday that one of those bombs landed in the courtyard of a house in the central Israeli city of Ginaton, causing light damage.

The FDI survey is why the missile delivering the bombs was not intercepted before having been dispersed, according to Israeli media.

The ammunition in clusters are a method of dispersion of a large number of tiny bombs from a rocket, a missile or an artillery shell which diffuses them half-voltage on a large area.

They are intended to explode on the impact, but a significant proportion are “failures”, which means that they do not initially explode. This occurs especially if they land on a wet or soft floor.

They can then explode on a later date to be picked up or walked, kill or mutilate the victim.

How the bombes in cluster work

The Houthis have checked a large part of the North West Yemen since 2014, when they have ousted the internationally recognized government of Sanaa and sparked a devastating civil war.

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis have regularly launched missiles in Israel and attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, saying that they act in solidarity with the Palestinians.

The rebels are provided by Iran, which also used bombs in bunches during its confrontation at 12 days with Israel in June.
