Australia police suspect appointed human hunting continues

Australian police are pursuing a massive search for a heavily armed man suspected of shooting and killing two officers in a rural city.

Ten police officers were dismissed Tuesday after having traveled in the property of Porepunkah – about 300 km (186 miles) northeast of Melbourne – to execute an alleged sexual offenses.

Almost 24 hours later, the police appointed the suspect as the local man Dezi Freeman, 56, confirmed that he was “still in freedom”.

Police deployed officers, a helicopter and armored vehicles in the region and warned the inhabitants to stay inside until Mr. Freeman is captured.

“We pour all the resources in research,” said Victoria police commissioner Mike Bush.

“Be vigilant, keep yourself safe.”

He previously declared that the two police officers had been “murdered in cold blood” and identified them as a 59 -year -old detective and a 35 -year -old main agent – but said their names are not released as long as relatives have not been informed.

A third officer injured in the shooting was now out of surgical, said Bush, and although “considerably damaged”, he would recover.

He also discussed previous reports from local media according to which Mr. Freeman had taken his family hostage, adding that the police had spoken to his partner and his children and that they were safe.

The authorities have no observation of Mr. Freeman since he fled after the shooting and focuses on a “dense bush zone” near her house.

“He will know this region better than us, which is why we put all the experts, supported by local knowledge,” said Bush.

“Our understanding is that he understands Bushcraft well, which gives us a challenge.”

Surrounded by highly wooded hills in the Australian Alps, Porepunkah is only about an hour’s drive from the Southern New Wales border.

Mr. Bush added that the police were looking for a “very, very large” area and also explores if Mr. Freeman may have left the State – although there is “no information” at this stage to suggest that this happened.
