If there’s one thing I love more than a good horror comedy, it’s one that goes directly against Walt Disney’s wishes. Steamboat Willie to be in the public domain in 2024. Jumping at the chance to make a Mickey Mouse based slasher, writer Simon Phillips and director Jaime Bailey announced their intention to make it. Mousetrap, and release the trailer on January 1, 2024, the day copyright laws no longer apply to intellectual property if they’ve been waiting for this moment all their lives. The result is a teenage film that the protagonist is very similar to Steamboat Willie retelling of Mickey Mouse, as future depictions of the character are still protected under copyright law.

The Mouse Trap

In the past The Mousetrap gets to its worst effect, a huge disclaimer slowly scrolls across the screen, informing the audience that “This production is not sponsored, endorsed or affiliated with DisneyThe Walt Disney Company or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates and/or third party licensors. The disclaimer goes on for a long time, letting everyone know that they made several phone calls to confirm that Disney wants nothing to do with the movie, “legally or emotionally,” but before admitting that the disclaimer is “nonsense.” space scroll … not to be confused with Lucas films and its subsidiary companies or third party licensees. “

Sure, this whole intro The Mouse Trap is a joke in itself, but obviously there was a fear of legal ramifications going into this project, so why not be completely tongue-in-cheek when given the chance?

The Mouse Trap’s Framework

The Mouse Trap

Events shown in the The Mouse Trap he is told just after recalling from the prison cell where Rebecca (Mackenzie Mills) was, the only survivor of the murder that took place at the entertainment center. Tight-lipped at first, Rebecca doesn’t want to take detectives Cole (Damir Kovic) and Marsh (Nick Biskupek) on what happened before she was locked up because she fears for her life. In order to prove his innocence, Rebecca has to travel with the investigators all night because at this time she is the most important person, because she is the only one who got out of the amusement park alive.

It is worth noting, however, that Rebecca’s story is questionable because her recollection of events includes exchanges that took place in her alleged absence.

The story sings along, The Mousetrap he jumps back and forth from Rebecca’s questions, to Funhaven, the amusement park where Alex (Sophie McIntosh) and Jayna (Madeline Kelman) work. At the end of their shifts, Alex and Jayna are approached by their boss, Tim (Simon Phillips), who asks them to stay a few hours late because of a reservation. After leaving the back office, Tim pours himself a drink and watches Steamboat Willie on his projector until he is distracted by his Mickey mask, which taunts him with demonic voices, prompting him to put it on.

Tim Wanders is laughing, and this is the last time he’ll see it…or so everyone should think.

Start the Bloodbath

The Mousetrap

Alex didn’t know at the time that the party that was going to arrive was his friends that I haven’t mentioned because you know they are going The Mousetrap that no one makes it out alive, so why do you agree? Meanwhile, what appears to be Tim, still wearing his Mickey Mask, chains and barricades all the doors, makes sure no one can escape Funhaven.

Now, if you have seen even one cutyou know of course The Mouse Trap it’s going to this point. One by one, killer Mickey, who inexplicably has telepathic powers, kills everyone in his path while laughing out loud with each stab.

Since then, The Mousetrap shamelessly does every slasher genre trope imaginable with style.

That couple wandering around the jungle gym to make love? Don’t take too much. The words “I will come again,” immediately become a death sentence. And of course, of course Everyone’s cell phone is put in the bag so that everyone can live in the moment instead of wiping away the destruction. Unless this is the case, failing to behave properly at a birthday party will make everyone aware of the future.

Magical and Maniacal

The Mouse Trap

The Mousetrap it doesn’t want to reinvent the slasher genre, but it celebrates the familiar beats we’ve all seen before in the most ridiculous way. Although at first I wanted to not see Tim’s mask at the beginning of the film, which means that he is the only person who can be the killer, going into the film without a secret somehow makes it more interesting.

The Mousetrap it doesn’t have to make you think, and there’s no big reveal.

In fact, five minutes into the film, you know exactly what’s going to happen (by design), which allows you to enjoy the violence knowing what’s going to happen as a spectator when everyone else doesn’t.

You can stream The Mousetrap free on Tubi at the time of this writing, and I invite you to invite your friends to witness Mickey Mouse in action.
