A Nashville area school district voted this week to remove a transgender children’s book from its school libraries after questions about the book’s content were raised at a board meeting last month.

During a public comment session at the Dec. 10 Murfreesboro School Board meeting, pastors and activists John K. Amanchukwu asked the district to put a picture book, “It Feels Good to Be Alone,” on the shelves of Bradley Academy, an elementary school that serves pre-K through 6 students in the district.

This book provides an idea of ​​gender identity for readers as young as four years old, according to its description.

“Some people are boys. Some are girls. Some are both, or, or somewhere,” it says.

The book tells the story of “Ruthie,” a transgender girl, and introduces terms like “cisgender” and “nonbinary” to explain gender diversity to young readers.

After Amanchukwu started reading the book, the chairman of the association, Mr. Butch Campbell, objected to the pastors bringing the book to the meeting, saying it was against the rules of only bringing matters to the public comment section.
