Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez left Liverpool to join Al-Hilal for a three-year contract, said Saudi Pro League Club.

The transfer, worth 46.3 million pounds sterling, ends the period of two years from Nunez to Anfield. Liverpool had signed it from Benfica in June 2022 for a first £ 64 million pounds sterling.

During his time with the Reds, Nunez recorded 40 goals in 143 games. However, during the winning campaign of the Club Premier League title last season, he limited himself to only eight league departures.

A declaration by Liverpool read: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Darwin for his contributions and wishes him, as well as his family, all the best for the future.”

Nunez has already linked herself to his new teammates in his pre-season camp in Germany.

Its release could influence Liverpool’s transfer plans, in particular their pursuit of Alexander Isak from Newcastle. The Magpies would have rejected an opening offer of 110 million pounds sterling for the Swedish striker.

Nunez had an instant impact on his beginnings in Liverpool, marking in the victory of the 3-1 community on Manchester City in 2022. He also found the net during his first League debut, but was not sent during his second appearance in the league.

The injuries disrupted his pace in his first season, although he still managed 15 goals in 42 games. The following campaign saw him improve this count at 18 of 54 outings. However, his opportunities became more limited after Arne Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp in 2024.

Last season, Nunez only succeeded seven times in 47 appearances. During his premier league career with Liverpool, he scored 25 goals in 95 games, with almost half of these appearances (46) from the bench.
