Amazon to invest more than a billion dollars in realization and transport workers to increase remuneration

Amazon says that it invests more than a billion dollars to increase wages and reduce the cost of health care plans for its American realization and transport workers.

The company based in Seattle said on Wednesday that the average salary increased to more than $ 23 an hour. Some of its most permanent employees will see an increase between $ 1.10 and $ 1.90 an hour. Full -time employees will see their salary increase on average by $ 1,600 per year.

Amazon also said that it would reduce the cost of its health care plan to $ 5 per week and $ 5 for Co-Payments, from next year. Amazon said it would reduce the weekly contributions by 34% and that the 87% co-payment for primary care, mental health and most non-specialist visits for employees using the basic plan.

Amazon has a global workforce of 1.5 million workers.

Last December, seven Amazon facilities took place on strike, an effort by Teamsters Union to put pressure on the electronic commerce company for a labor agreement during a key purchase period.

This same month, Amazon has concluded a settlement with safety and the administration of occupational health which obliges the online giant to adopt ergonomic measures on the scale of the company in the installations across the country. The agency said that dangerous working conditions have led to serious lower back problems and other musculoskeletal disorders in Amazon’s facilities.

In January 2024, Walmart, the country’s largest private employer, said that the average salary of hourly workers would exceed $ 18, compared to $ 17.50. The increase is due to Walmart introducing more paid time roles in its car care centers last year, among other changes, the company said.

Walmart, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, announced in January 2023 that American workers would obtain salary increases the following month, increasing the departure wages between $ 14 and $ 19. Starting salaries had previously varied between $ 12 and $ 18 an hour, depending on the location.

At Target, based in Minneapolis, the departure hourly wage varies from $ 15 to $ 24 for workers employed in stores and distribution centers, according to the location, said company spokesperson Brian Harper-Tibaldo.

The average hourly wages for a target store worker is more than $ 18, he said.
