The opening match of Friday’s Premier League between Liverpool and Bournemouth was arrested in the 28th minute after Antoine Semenyo said he was abused by a man in the crowd of Anfield.

Merseyside police have confirmed that a 47 -year -old man had been ejected from the stadium after the man’s identity was confirmed by the staff on the ground.

“We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this, we will proactively seek the football prohibition orders, with the club, against those responsible,” said chief inspector Kev Chatterton.

On Friday evening, Semenyo was also subject to racist abuses on Instagram. The 25-year-old shared some of the abuses in his story, with legend: “When will it stop?”

International Ghana scored two goals to go up the match to 2-2 in the second half, before the champions won 4-2.

Managers Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola were pronounced by referee Anthony Taylor when the Anfield incident occurred, which led the game to a break.

“I said to myself via the Premier League match center that Antoine Semenyo was the subject of a racist commentary on the crowd,” said Peter Drury of Sky Sports.

“It was Semenyo himself who attracted attention to him.”

Bournemouth captain Adam Smith described the incident of “unacceptable” while head coach Iraola added: “It’s a great shame, most of the news will be on this thing. Obviously, it is something that is still a big problem, not only in football.

“On the side of Liverpool, they identified this person.”

Abuse Semenyo: Smith “Angry” and “Sorry”

Addressing Sky Sports after the match, the skipper of the Cherries Smith said that he was “angry” and “shocked” by the incident.

“It’s totally unacceptable,” he said. “I am in shock that this has happened. Nowadays, this should not happen. I don’t know how Ant has played and found these goals.

“I’m sorry for Ant. It is a little broken down. Something should be done. Take a knee has no effect. We will support him in there and I hope he will be fine.

“I wanted him (Semenyo) to react because that’s what I would have done. I would have gone directly there. This shows what type of man he should not react, even when he came not to react, to continue, then he reported it to the reference.

“Taking these objectives shows what type of guys it is and what type of character he has. Fair Play to Ant.

“It’s more angry, to be honest. Shocked. I told the referee that I wanted him (the supporter) removed immediately. He said we have to go through a process and the police would sort it.

“Liverpool players were also very favorable to Antoine and the rest of the team. I think it was managed in the right way, but so angry.

“We had discussions with the Premier League (on discriminatory comments) so that they took it seriously, but speaking to some of the guys in there, I don’t know what else we can do.

“We have been doing it for a long time now and no one understands. I don’t know what to say. I’m just sorry for Ant, who must have taken this tonight. The whole country is watching and that happens is shocking.”
