Liverpool’s boss, Arne Slot, says he has no pain in a selection head after Hugo Ekitike marked the winner in the Merseyside derby at the expense of Alexander Isak.

The summer signing of 125 million pounds Sterling from Newcastle was relegated to the bench against Everton, handed over a short camée in the last stages of the game.

His place was taken by Ekitike, who caught the second goal in the afternoon after Ryan Gravenberch placed the local team after 10 minutes.

The performance of the two players has raised questions about who will be the starting striker under the slot machine, while Liverpool spent five victories at the Premier League.

Speaking after the match, he said: “There is no headache. These two players are very happy that we both have them.

“Both know that it is very difficult for them to play three times 90. Hugo is 21, 22 years old and comes to a new league of intensity.

“You can see those who are used to this – Virgile, Ryan, Mo. But for the new ones, you can see, it’s more difficult.

“The performance in the first half. We have always known how difficult it was going to be, three games in seven days, the start early on Saturday.

“You can also see how impacting it. The first half when we were fresh, incredible in the way we played. The second half, you have to give Credit to Everton but you could see that we were (losing energy).”

Grateful for Gravenberch

Slot could not finish his press conference without praising Gravenberch, who also provided assistance to the possible winner.

Asked to know if he continued to improve, he said: “If I said better, it would mean that there was room for improvement last season.

“The two goals, we targeted the same area where we had players with a higher pace to enter these situations.”
