In a change compared to the previous group phase format produced until 2023/24, each team now has eight games in the league phase, all against different opponents.
Four of these matches will be at home and four, the opponents determined according to four sowing pots divided by classification.
The teams will play two opponents of each of these pots – one against a team from each pot at home and one outside. The results decide on the overall ranking of a league.
The first eight sides of the table automatically qualify for the final of 16. The teams finishing from ninth to 24th will participate in elimination in the Knockout on two legs to reach the last 16.
The teams finishing 25th or less are outside Europe for the season.

English teams in the Champions League: why are there six clubs?
Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle have all qualified like the best teams of the Premier League.
There were five places for English teams because additional positions are allocated according to the UEFA coefficient classification, which are based on the overall performance of nations through European competition during a season.
The Spurs qualified as champions of the Europa League, despite the loss of 22 and winning only 11 of their 2024/25 championship matches and finishing 17th.
When is the Champions League final?
The final will take place on May 30, 2026 in The Puskas Arena in Budapest, which opened in 2019 and which houses the national team of Hungary.
Arena welcomed a dramatic final of the Europa League in 2022/23, when Seville beat the Roma in penalties after a 1-1 draw after an additional time.
